Joe Louis. Was he a little bit "special" in the intellectual sense?

It's like the Dean Martin show only funnier with Valuev instead of Dean. Anyway, why would you want to argue? :D

I simply dare anyone not to wet themselves like all of Russia did when he took on the infamous cellphone finger snap sketch.

To answer the original question of the thread:

Joe Louis was not a towering intelect, but he was not a complete buffon either. He is documented to have had problems with reading and writing as a child.

He suffered from a speech impediment which often exagerated the impresion that he was slow. It also has to be noted that the contemporary press often dumbed down his speech in line with their predudices.

He did have an impresive ability for off the cuff wit, which requires a certain type of functional inteligence. Far from being slow, it seems that the sense in which he was inteligent was that he was quick to respond.

I think this is a good question actually, because I have wondered this as well. But when it comes down to it, Joe Louis was barely literate even as a young man and had a speech impediment as well. These factors often lead to an anxiety about speaking in public. So a lack of education mixed with a lack of confidence in your speaking ability will make anyone seem slow. As a man, he did not speak particularly poor but rather was very simplistic. He pretty much answered your questions and that was it.

Being "slow" or "special" dose not always mean that one is "Rain Man" like.
Someone with Aspergers or NLD can function very well. They may seem weird to others or have poor social skills.
People with Aspergs and NLD can have sense of humor that is often dry and misunderstood by other people.
