Actually, considering I'd have to favour him as the underdog in his first round, if he does upset the applecart there then it would open up that contest quite well so yeah...good chance of medals ahoy!

I like Murray and his demeanour. I don't think he was too bothered about the singles in the Olympics.
The wee diver must be a poofter, most of those guys are.

the boxer Murray beat the same Chnese boy last year, but that was with neutral scorers, the China guys are getting massive hometown scoring in their favour, the olympic boxing is a load of shite in my opinion.

All through the Olympics boxing so far the scoring has been very generous for the Chinese. Its getting sickening now, this fight was no different.

Andy Murray bottled it. He is far more patetic than even Tiger Tim was.

Disapointed about Joe Murray but coming up against a ***** at these games is a sure fire loss.

The young diver was an embarrassment and sahould be made to walk home in disgrace. Little ****.

The diver really pissed me off, as I have already said. People shouldn't be allowed to go to the Olympics 'just for experience'.

It shows a complete lack of respect for not only his diving partner, but the rest of the competition. It is almost as if he was making excuses for his inevitable failure. To me, the other guy made some valid points - though he will no doubt be cast as a bitter ****er who can't take losing.

Considering 'the other guy' wasn't good enough to qualify for the individual event wheras the kid was, I certainly know who I'd accuse of being the weak link in that partnership.

Plus actually watching the syncro diving, it was him rather than Daley that muffed up his entry into the water on about 4 of the 6 dives...1 Daley got wrong, the last one they both got spot-on. Which was their big problem, their synchronozation was actually pretty good.

I don't if he had valid points or not...regardless if Daley had even done belly-flops and cannonballs, you simply don't come out like a total **** and stick the verbal knife within an hour of the event. Keep that stuff private, airing your dirty laundry in public makes you AND the team look bad. Really selfish and stupid move by Aldridge.

Fortunately, Daley seems not only to have not reacted in turn but (according to their coach Leon Taylor) is perfectly fine with Aldridge and has written it off as stress. When a damn teenager already has more maturity than you, you've got a problem.

I suppose it was a bit quick to start spouting off and I suppose it would have been better aired in private.

I just don't like the whole 'just for experience thing'

Whats Murray and Edwards complaining about, apart from the last round Murray did sweet FA to merit the win. Yes the chinese lad was gifted a few points but he would have won without them.

I haven't really followed the diving as Ireland doesn't have any competitors in it but I don't think it's a stupid idea to send a kid of 14 if they are in or around the lower end of Olympic level.

If he wins a medal in 4 years time it will be justified, if he wins a medal it 8 years time it will be justified, in fact if he ever wins an Olympic medal or even just medals at World Championships it will be justified. The Olympics really is a very important event in developing young promising athletes.

It only comes round ever 4 years and as such there is usually more pressure to perform there than anywhere else. There is more expectation(that of a whole nation) than at any other event. Without having experienced it before sometimes it can be too much to deal with.
Competing with the very best in the World is obviously a major help too.

and sometimes, just sometimes those that are brought along for experience end up surprising everyone. Last year we had a promising Junior boxer in Ireland by the name of John Joe Nevin, he decided to enter the last Senior Irish boxing Championships 'for experience'. He cruised to the Irish title and then won Gold the first Olympic qualifier in Pescara Italy at just 18 years of age.

He won his first bout at the games this morning against an Algerian opponent 9-4 but will face the tough prospect of Mongolian Uugan in the next round, the Silver medallist from the World Championships. He's probably going to go out of the tournament and had he been drawn in the bottom half of the top draw or the top half of the bottom draw I would of fancied him to medal but anyway. For someone who entered the Irish Championships he has gone a hell of a long way, and if he's around in 4 years time I have no doubt what the benfits of that experience will do.

It costs a nice amount of cash to send participants to the Olympics, but the simple reason why they do it is because even if they are not good enough to win now, the 'experience' may be enough for them to win something next time round.

To be some way on topic, hard luck to Joe Murray. I didn't see his fight but I thought of him as one of the guys on the British team with a chance of picking up a medal
