Joe Rogan at it again

I disagree. You aren't wrong and I'm very aware of his shortcomings as an entertainer, but the man is very charismatic and knows how to talk in an interesting way. It's not a fluke that he has a huge podcast. I don't think he's a good actor, or comedian, which is how he made his fortune, but he's a great radio personality. You need to know a little about the game you're discussing, but the bulk is probably just being a good conversationalist and having a likable personality; so you don't get on viewers nerves. Other than that, the commentaries are almost never that informative. I think they are more about keeping people focused, giving their ears something to do while their eyes are watching the fight. A good commentary is the equivalent of what your buddies would say if you had them over to watch a fight. It's not an in depth break down of skills or events. They don't offer a lot of historical perspective. It's just a bull session.

Most fighters actually stink at commentary. I believe Tito Ortiz was monumentally bad, if memory serves me right. Chuck Lidell probably can't put more than a few words together in the right order after all his head trauma, etc. I'm not sure Silva speaks English. Jon Jones could probably do it though, or Chael Sonnen. I know we've had some problems in boxing over the years putting ex-fighters in front of the mics. Jones, Ward, and Leonard are the exception not the rule. When PBC had Tommy Hearns for a while, I think he was having trouble putting words together and slurring them.

I'll give Rogan some slack, because I think his UFC job is something he's actually good at. I cut Lampley and Kellerman slack too, because I've heard what their competition sounds like. The guys who have their jobs in England, Australia, or on rival US promotions are usually awful. I wish they'd just give the job to Steve Kim and Boom Boom Mancini but I'll never get that lucky.

One area I do agree with you is with Rogan surrounding himself with some mouth breathers who don't challenge him. All the drug and conspiracy talk can get annoying.

I haven't heard a whole lot of Rogan, but what I did hear was extremely entertaining. He knows enough about the sport to appeal to the noobs and as you said, his passion carries over. There was a podcast he did when I think he was drunk, about Brock Lesnar, and how he'd have all the other MMA guys chained to a pole in his backyard if it was the middle ages. I LMAO'd at that one.

Mastery of English isn't always a prerequisite for being a great commentator. Bas Rutten was a bit iffy in his early career, and I still enjoyed him.

He has his qualities, I think his podcast with Armstrong was excellent.

I haven't watch his comedy a lot, from what I've seen it's not really my style of humor, I think Joe is the funniest when he just spontaneously makes some jokes on podcasts.

Rogan def has some annoying moments, TJ vs Barao fight was unbearable to listen to.

But He has some great insights on kicking and bjj, kicks especially, and that's an area which I know very little about, and find his explanations useful.

Rogan is the bottom of the bird cage. I am aalso beginning to not really like women's MMA. They are basically show pony's for fan boys that all act like men anyways. Did anyone of you take a good look at that thing who just crushed Rousey? LOL

Could they possibly have found a more hideous looking, roided out, loud mothed, dyke? That creature is on way more gear than me for certain.
