Evasion and footwork - or just smother him, which Ruiz can. :think

Ruiz beat Kirk Johnson, Golota, Holy, most thought he beat Valuev, but was robbed, sound familiar??, LOL, and he also fought a no contest with a roided Toney..

He also stopped Tucker, Oquendo, and won on points against Rahman, and McCline..

He had a better career than that fraud Briggs.

True, but he did have a shaky chin and Briggs did have power.

I don't believe that is the be-all end-all of this match-up, but should be taken under consideration.

Sounds to me like you didn't follow Ruiz's career very closely if you don't question the validity of some of those wins.

Wouldn't be easily... Shannon is a big and powerful brute, I'm not so sure Ruiz would have the easiest of times smothering Briggs. I think he could have success with that tactic for a couple of rounds, but would walk on to something eventually.

Briggs was a lot like Tommy Morrison in that he was dangerous for about three rounds and then he got less and less effective to the point they had to rely soley on their footwork to make it the distance. Briggs was exposed early by Darrol Wilson who stopped him and then Tua destroyed Wilson. We knew at that time Briggs was somewhat of a novelty fighter. Big mouth, big power against cans. What significant win did he have? Beating Foreman? He still claims hes the last american champion for that fight in which many thought he lost!

Sweet post. Most like myself thought Foreman at 48 was ripped off in that fight.

And I forgot he was blasted out against Wilson..

Briggs will probably be most remembered as the guy who spent a week in the hospital after he was broken to pieces against Klitchko..

If he could fight as good as he could talk trash he would be the 2nd coming of Ali..

Seriously - it's RUIZ that's the fraud, not Briggs. Briggs is mediocre, true - but at least he had some boxing ability and didn't have to cheat to "win" fights.

Ruiz never "won" a fight against decent competition without holding excessively or faking "low blows." He couldn't, as he had all the talent of a high grade clubfighter.

Holding excessively? don't you mean the Klitchko guy:lol:, oh my bad.

Ruiz beat Holyfield in 2000, just a year after the draw fight with LL, i would say that's decent competition..

How did Ruiz cheat to win:huh, you mean guy's like Toney, (roids) and Kirk Johnson for numerous low blows, and Valuev dirty fighting, they were trying to cheat to beat Ruiz..

Watch a Ruiz fight - he blatantly violated the rules against excessive holding in virtually all of the fights he had against top level comp. This is against the rules. And unlike guys like Wlad or Hopkins who used holding as a supplement to actual boxing skills, Ruiz used it as a replacement for the lack of them!!!

Even more disgracefully against Johnson he blatantly overacted to get bogus low blow calls - something he had done before against Jimmy Thunder and against Holyfield. Oh, and let's not forget the outrageous robbery against Golota, where Ruiz was decked twice, outlanded, and still somehow was given the decision!!! :patsch

Ruiz's career is a total fraud, the product of Don King's influence. Just shows how far a glorified clubfighter can go if he has the right connections.:yep

Lol, guys are questioning his chin because Tua obliterated him? Any heavyweight foolish enough to be cornered amd hit with those bombs would have been sent to a good nights rest
