I'm with you on this one...

I suspect that a lot of people will look at the two wins Simpson has over Paul Truscott and lead themselves to believe that the inexperience that led to Truscott's defeats will be Smith's downfall as well.

However, Stephen Smith is a classy fighter who, though clearly inexperienced as a pro, can draw upon a good amatuer career and box sensibly enough to a close, and possibly disputed, decision. I like John Simpson but let's not forget that he isn't impossible to beat.

I get the feeling those who are 100% picking Simpson have not seen Smith fight many times. His class will show, honestly think this guy is going to the top I mean the very top.

Paul Smith vs Magee has to take place before the end of July i think if i am right so this and Bellew could be a good shout to put as support on the undercard

we agree on something at last. This kid is talented. simple as that. If it comes too early, then it comes too early.

And i don't agree with devaluing the commonwealth title. Two top domestic prospects are fighting for it, hopefully, and that aint a bad thing!

Let's be honest here. It is only the amount of unknown Africans and Aussie fighters like Ben Crampton (who Darren Barker beat very easily) fighting for the Commonwealth title that has led to its devaluing. It still has the potential to be a significant title, as Junior Witter vs Lovermore Ndou showed, but tighter regulations are needed.

We need to encourage the up and coming fighters from around the Commonwealth to fight for the title. For example, Samuel Peter, Joshua Clottey, Michael Katsidis, Glen Johnson and Steve Molitor were all legible to fight for it and none did.

Unless Warren knows something we don't it sounds like a suicide mission for Smith. Still, great fun matchup!

Molitor fought for it a few years back before he was at world level.

i agree. i don't think this actual match up devalues the title in itself, but the quality of the match ups needs to improve to get the integrity of the title back.
promotors have used to title as a means to get someone a title without really earning it.
Godd example is don broadhurst, who lost in his first real step up against haskins. Granted it was also for the british, but he learnt **** all fighting afro bums

I think people are going to be surprised if the fight goes ahead at how far along ste smith is in terms of adapting to the pro game, and his ring craft.
Simpson should not take this lightly one bit

The Commonwealth is being devalued for several reasons.

The level of fighters going for the belt has been poor and theres to many vacant titles being picked up. If its not the sub par Africans, its British fighters.

On friday you had 2 vacant Commonwealth title fights, 3 British fighters fought for the 2 belts, and 4 fighters had previously been lined up to fight for them before pulling out. 6 of the fighters would not be ranked in the top 5 in Britain, and the other Craig Watson was fighting for a vacant belt in a division he had never had a fight in.

To many British fighters going for the belt. Its become the British Title B. Promoters with a decent prospect can go for the Commonwealth if theres a decent British champion to avoid a tough fight or vice versa. Warren did this with Khan to avoid Thaxton.

Still Smith deserves his shot as much as other prospects who got one. Is Smiths record worse than Bellews and Groves were before there last fight?? Not really and at least he is facing a quality opponent in Simpson and not a dodgy african for a vacant title like Bellew did. (got to give credit to Groves as Adamu is a tough opponent)
