I've wondered that myself. And I've gotten the strange feeling for months now that I'm actually conversing with Winona Ryder directly and I miss it. Also, back to the actual thread. I've always been a little self conscious about rating Tapia higher than I think most do. But, one thing particularly to this comparison. Tapia didn't just compete in other divisions but he did unify his original championship division and even held onto both titles for a few defenses. I give high marks for unification. It's very meaningful to me. I'd rather see a guy fight another champion in their more natural weight class, then say, move up a weight and take a lesser champion there. To me it does a service for the division, the sport itself and the fighter's legacy.

I thought Canizales was far superior......I voted Canizales without hesitation. To me, its not even close. Tapia was a high volume energetic type of a fighter who was a showman, the type imo that would have been completely nullified against a great boxer. I look at it this way. If both Canizales and Tapia were to go up against a great boxer or boxer/puncher, Canizales would be in it to win it........Tapia would get disected.
I think Tapia had some very underrated boxing skills that could often get obscured in the frenzy of his style. But I do agree that Canizales is superior on a technical level anyway. I just favor Tapia's accomplishments more. This thread reminds me of a discussion we had on one of Addie's threads about a H2H of Tapia VS Penalosa. And the take was Tapia would take Penalosa on volume basically, even though we weren't saying he was a better technical fighter. And I don't personally believe Tapia had the better technical ability compared to Penalosa either (had/has) but he had more accomplishments by far and would've had a stylistic advantage in that fight. I also elected not to touch on the H2H part of what Tapia/Canizales may have yielded in this thread. But I do rate the achievements a bit higher. Mostly though, I've got a buzz on and I have no idea what my main point was with this comment so ...whatever, end comment.
