RJJ would win 6 out of every 10 figths imo. What really really suprises me tho is how many total boxing idiots we have here. To be fair all you who said RJJ would KO calzaghe for sure are just plain blind. Is this based on all of calzagehs losses to KO?, or is it based on the 3 flash KD he suffered in his career. Before calzaghe suffered his hand problems he KO bums just like Jones did so in that respect considering RJJ has a weak chin shall we say Calzaghe KO jones?. Of course not cus any sane person knows this fight goes the distance.
No, it's based on the fact that Roy Jones holds pretty much every conceivable advantage in the book and hits like a freight train, as well as the fact that Calzaghe's about as difficult to hit as a barn door. The few people who were brave enough to jump at a prime Jones were usually taken out of the ring on a stretcher.
I think it would have been a good bout. Calzaghe could punch alot harder and faster in his prime, and Jones seemed to hold a shot better. Im in the minority but will say Calzaghe, for a few reasons 1. When Jones 1st fought M Griffin, he was being walked back into corners by Griffin, and covering up. Griffin isnt as strong or fast as Calzaghe who in that situation would have been throwing punches. Yes I know what happend in the rematch, but 1st time round was close. 2. Calzaghe although having gone down in his career always had a good chin and was never really in major trouble where he was staggering around the ring, so I dont think Jones would have stopped him. Jones was also put down in his career by a lighter puncher than a prime Calzaghe, but also not in trouble. 3. Calzaghe also had good speed when younger and although Jones was probably faster, Calzaghe would have been able to land on Jones more often than Jones at that stage was used to. 4. It is known Jones had been found to have used illegal substances in his career, so how good was he really, and how often did he use them? Although Jones possibly has advantages I think Calzaghe would just out tough him for a very close points win
Lol i wonder if people in this thread would actually put there money on a prime Calzaghe against a prime Jones. To be honest of all the elite head to head match ups, this is one of the easiest to pick a winner. In my opinion Roy by domination, maybe even a late stoppage but most likely UD.
once and it wasn't steroids it was **** that you buy at GNC or nutritional supply stores that happened to be banned when/where he fought. otherwise your analysis is ok except that 1)joe was never hit by a puncher the caliber of jones 2)jones was never hurt until well past prime
dont get me wrong, jones could very well ko calzaghe but a lot of jones bias and calzaghe hate is clouding a lot of decisions i dont care what people say, jones was over hyped by the american media, the same way english fighters are over hyped by the english media. i think it would have been an incredibly close fight, i know from watching both men, the only advantages jones had over calzaghe was power and agility and reflexes. calzaghe was a better boxer and had lightening hand speed as well as his slapping style meant he could punch quicker than normal due to putting less power in jones may have won by ko but at the same time i would place a bet on calzaghe to win by ud as the american media would hype up jones and put joe at a huge underdog like they did against lacy but its obvious to everyone, jones and hopkins ducked calzaghe, they were offered a chance to fight but didnt
Roy Jones Jr would have easily destroyed JC,everyone knows this Sugar Ray Leonard would have easily destroyed Hector Camacho,Everyone knows this Mike Tyson would would have easily destroyed Lennox lewis,Everyone knows this The fact is the only reason these men beat them was because they caught them at the very end of their career P4P ...they wouldve been slaughtered
Not compared to you huh? You even know how his dick feels .. probably the reason that even the UK forum finds you a rabid Calzhugger .. listen to JT .. he has a grasp on reality .. you obviously don't know f**k about boxing ..
blimey... I hate the 'prime' thing - but assuming you mean the RJJ of his supermiddle years and JC vs Lacy, then- unfortunately- it's the dog-wrecking yank every time.
People have been watching too many highlights videos of Jones. Calzaghe is fast and has reflexes. This negates Jones advantages somewhat. The advantage is there, but not as massive as he was used to. Without an unreal speed and relex advantage Jones doesn't have as much as Calzaghe to fall back on. Calzaghe has the strength, stamina, chinower ratio and skillset advantage. Jones can knock Calzaghe down maybe stop him, but you have to make Calzaghe a 60-70% favourite.
It is amazing how many clueless posters have Joe rated so highly .. it's some kind of ESB disease. I guess really really bad athletes like to post a lot and are simply incapable of recognizing the obvious differences between the two fighters. Sort of like gimps who are attracted to really ugly women ... they only know what they CAN know.
Plenty of fighters worse than Calzaghe were not killed fighting against Jones. This is a competetive fight either way. Calzaghe humilated Joens when they fought, both were shot at the time so we can scale these things.
