Calzaghe is not that quick. If you have ever Boxed you will know that throwing punches without locking your elbows out or punching without power can give the illusion that your quicker than you actually are, Calzaghe did both these things.

    Jones's speed is like 70% to Joe's 30%.

Let me explain something. When you have a leaky defence it means you can get hit cleanly, when you are getting hit with the cleaner more accurate punches you can lose rounds, so regardless whether Joe sets a tremendous pace or not he would have to evade Jones's shots because he would either get knocked out or his lack of defence would lose him a decision.

Joe cant win a decision because his defence is not tight enough, he would get hit with the cleaner punches throughout the rounds.

Calzaghe does throw arm punches to achieve his speed.

But they are the best, most hurtful arm punches the world has ever seen.

One or two conventional punches are always thrown into his 12 punch combos too.

Jones will be landing plenty of right hands though.

Oh, yeah, Joe was so past it. He was only coming off the two best wins of his career. While Roy was coming off of wins over a couple of nobodies and a fat, inactive Tito Trinidad. If Joe couldn't so much as wobble 39 year old Roy then how would prime Roy's chin hinder him at all? Roy would stop Calzaghe in the middle rounds. You're a clown. :****off

I think you should stop holding back when you post, it can be detrimental to your health. LOL.......

Anyway, although I get the point of your post, I do think JC gets ridiculed a little too much on ESB. He was a really good fighter, entertaining and had a lot of fans. I do think those fans deify him far beyond his accomplishments, but that's what fans do. But i do think this brings on much of the negative reaction toward their guy.

Personally, I think anyone who picks a prime JC to beat a prime RJJ has never seen the latter fight at that stage of his career. He was simply too fast, and too strong. I think the only advantage of note JC would have would be workrate and I don't think he would be able to utilize that vs a stronger, faster guy. He'd leave himself open for punishment if that's the tact he'd take.

It's a bit of a shame RJJ has taken quite a bit of the luster off of his career by continuing to fight 5 or 6 years too long. I'm not a fan, mind you, but I think he should get his due.

Calzaghe has NO advantages over Jones in their primes.

    Speed
    Jones by quite a bit

    Power
    Jones, fairly easily

    defense

    Jones, by a lot

I don't see what Joe would bring to the table that would give Jones a problem. Jones would throw over his punches quickly. Hell a shot slowed down Jones caught Joe withe a quick punch and floored him. Can you imagine what a prime, 2x faster Jones does.

JC wouldn't last the distance. Wrong fight for him.

Calzaghe's much better than half the bums RJJ fought in his prime and he didn't kill all of them

    The fight would be competitive.

    heres 3 advantages joe had

1 - workrate - no body gets in your face and pressure fights like joe calzaghe. calzaghe was also much harder to hit when doing this than being crdited for on here. joes pressure fighting takes roy out of his comfort zone.

2 - adaptability - when joes plan A goes out of the window, he adapts to plan B. if that goes out of the window he moves to plan C. he adapts in the ring as well as anyone i've seen. now you tell me what roys plan B was . . . . . . oh thats right, he didn't have one.

3 - chin - joe has a world class chin. he may have suffered a few flash knockdowns but he has never looked out or even wobbled on his feet. every single time joe has been knocked down he has come back toe to toe and won the remainder of the round - he has a proper pair of bollocks. on the other hand, whenever roy gets hurt by anybody, then its the end of the fight, how good is roys heart when the going gets tough?

4 - joe never needed to take PED's.

the people in this thread who think joe calzaghe is an easy fight for roy jones know **** all about boxing. you keep watching those video's how he knocked down one eyed civil servants if you like.

    Jones/Calzaghe prime for prime?

Joe spends six months calling Roy out, but changes his mind, fights Bob Foster, and declares himself a "legend killer."

You are basing these weaknesses on a 35 year old Jones, weaknesses that were not even talked about with a prime Jones.

You name me a prime Jones fight where you felt he lacked heart, will and chin.:patsch

Have any of the people saying Calzaghe would smother Jones with workrate ever even seen a full Prime Jones fight....

The people that came out and tried to smother him are the ones that got knocked out. His power was completely deadly at 168, and with Joe's relentless style he would have got caught and knocked out eventually.
