Jones vs Calzaghe

I have always thought that punch would have hurt Calzaghe more had it landed clean.

That punch was not intentional, as a matter of fact, Calzaghe actually moved his head into postition to be hit by the forearm, and out of the way of the fist. I am no genius but is there not more power generated at the end of a fist than their is forearm? I mean, If you have one shot to knock someone out are you going to hit them with your forearm or fist?

Point being, shot Roy caught Joe in one of his awkward anlges and for all we know the forearm hitting Joe might have been a good thing. Just goes to show how dangerous Roy still could be and even more so in his prime.. Would have been interesting to see how Joe would do against a prime Jones onslaught when he smelled blood. Luckly for Joe, Roy was old and lost his ability to fully pull the trigger, and as well fight for 12 full rounds.

 

Shot as in? If your looking at his hands yes they were shot to **** and brittle and had been most of his career aswell as being told when an amateur he`ll never fight professional by a doctor due to his hand problems.

Which if you think about it put him at a disadvantage from the start.

No overall he wasnt shot be he was nowhere near his best, i recall after the jones lacy fight , jones fans saying that Jones was back and that he`d beat calzaghe in a rematch. Then again before the Jones Calzaghe fight, fans , pundits you name it were saying Jones would win. Did none of these know what you know that Jones was shot????????

 

Yawn his hands were shot because he insisted on throwing slaps his whole career but it still didn't deter him from becoming undisputed super middleweight champ !


And the only people that picked Jones were his die hard fans ,Everyone and there mother knew Jones was so far gone ,yet somehow this was a surprise as to how Joe performed against a legaleses Roy ?



I also heard those same so called pundits say that Kelly Pavlik would KO Hopkins so yeah I'm sure they were credible ..



Jones was shot to **** against a peak Joe and Joe took advantage of that .

 

Terrific thought provoking posting, I'm not sure that Jones would have had the balls to face prime Lacy, he would have probably priced him out of the fight and instead found some sanitation worker to perform an exhibition on for the blinkered fanboys to purr over. Again would he have fought prime Sheika after witnessing what Sheika did to prime Glen Johnson? Instead Jones waited for Calzaghe to smash these 2 into submission before cherry picking them when he knew they were no longer at their peak.

 

46 fighter dont lose to a guy with glass hands especially when he's throwing 1000 punches a fight.
He landed over a 100 power shots on Roy without flinching.
His hands were fine.
The reality is he didn't have the power to crush a grape.

 

No his hand problems didnt deter him nor did being put on the deck for which he deserves alot of praise and credit which is what is expected of a champ when faced with adversity.

Yes it certainly was a surprise to those who thought Jones would beat calzaghe because they berated calzaghes skills. Plenty of former worlds champs said jones would win? why? were they that fickle? You must be one of a few to have known jones would get beat or is what your saying just based on hindsight now?

I have already stated i knew calzaghe would win as jones was past his best, But calzaghe being at his peak?? far from it! His punch resistance was dropping bigtime!

Well personally i laughed at the pre assessment of Hopkins - Pavlik that was all just people jumping on the hype wagon, Pavlik was one dimensional end of.

 

Bailey knows plenty about boxing, he just pretends to know nothing in order to **** people like you off.
