Linares lost due to a small cut, but Sergio Thompson tagged him up real good... Roach is lucky to have Pacman and Ariza .

    :deal

Thompson was written off by some here for being unknown, but just in that five minutes there he displayed a) chin, b) power, c) grueling work ethic, and d) killer instinct.

DeMarco isn't exactly the strongest titlist out there.

I'd be very interested in seeing Thompson reap the rewards of winning this eliminator and seizing Linares' high ranking out of his hands.

Linares went from a fighter with serious pop to a featherfist. that's the biggest difference.

whether it was the shoulder injury or the move up in weight, it killed his career.

Jumped from featherweight to lightweight, power didn't carry up. Case closed.

Was it a legit stoppage? Sounds like it all happened so fast. Unfortunately I missed this one too :(

    Legit, yeah.

Linares seemed to be blown around like a leaf in the wind by Thompson's power early in the 1st, but was able to assume control and box on the outside for the remainder.

In the 2nd he never even got the chance to get comfortable behind his jab. Thompson just stormed the gates and that was all she wrote. Linares was chewed up and spit out.

    Quick notes on Thompson's record...

    20 of his 22 wins are by KO. That's a 90% ratio.

    Of his two career losses:

One was a split decision to Ali Rahimov, who's a VERY talented boxer. Rahimov was scheduled to make his American TV debut on FNF a few months ago, but was unable to enter the US due to visa issues. He would have schooled Ji Hoon Kim otherwise, and everybody on this side of the Iron Curtain would have stood up and taken notice of him by now...

The other was a MD while still green to a more experienced guy with a losing record, but he later avenged that loss by KO.

These are the truest moments in boxing. When no ref., judge or politics are involved. When the one fighter who really wants it the most comes up on top regardless of hype and status. When the underdog is given the chance win or lose. Lots or respect to linares, but he's got some work ahead of him if he still wants it at all.
