Saturday of next week, on the undercard of a Japanese welterweight title bout @ Korakuen Hall. Scheduled for ten rounds @ lightweight.

Linares is coming off the fifth loss of his career (all by stoppage), at the hands of Pablo Cano up at 140lbs - territory he'd probably best not revisit. His opponent is coming off two consecutive UD losses to Japanese novices, and the Filipino - thirteen years Linares' junior - has only fought once before above the super featherweight limit.

How so? Linares hasn't fought since January and it's his first fight at 135 since Loma. He needs a tuneup and to make sure 135 is where he wants to be at.
What else is there for Linares? Everyone at 135 is tied up at the moment.

For the above reason, his opponent is coming off the back of two UD losses to Japanese novices, hes 21 years old and has the boxing IQ of Tommy Morrisons pet dog. Yes he needs tune up fight before a big one but a higher level of opponent than the one above

Fair enough. Might be too soft of a fight, but at this point it's better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully Linares will step up soon, he still has plenty to offer.

Hes class I'm a big fan, obviously a bigger fight will come next. Hopefully he still has it to mix at the top level. Id say he lives a good clean lifestyle

Q: if he looks impressive against Toyogon, what more does Linares need to do to earn a lucrative rematch (perhaps a final big payday, as he just officially entered his mid-thirties a few weeks ago) with either Campbell or Lomachenko?

A journeyman with a 10-4-1 record from the Philippines should be taken more seriously than somebody with a similar record from elsewhere, and losses to Japanese novices should be taken with a grain of salt as well because they also have a strong domestic scene.

I've only seen Toyogon once, beating up .500 countryman Nathan Bolcio, and he looked so-so, but I did note that Jawbreaker Noynay was the more impressive of the super featherweight co-headliners on the night:

(and indeed, Noynay just upset unbeaten Satoshi Shimizu :D)

Campbell rematch is a good fight. Winner of that should get another shot at Loma. But still would prefer to see Loma Vs Teofimo / Haney / Tank first

(I completely forgot about this, distracted as I was raging over Manny Pacquiao Boxing Stable canceling their undercard stream of the Filipino card just because their prospect lost...)

Linares takes a decision but was running for dear life in R10, and emerges with some nasty cuts.

Sigh..... I came in here with concerns that Linares might have lost or looked bad. And looks like they were valid. I think the rollercoaster ride that had been Linares career is finally over. He gave everything he had left against Campbell and Loma. Time to call it a day champ.
