Hey Rican Mares was only 17 when Rigandeaux beat him. How many times did Mares and Lopez fight in the amatuers?

Its not fair to compare Cubans amateurs against other countries.
Rigondeaux dominated the olimpics at 2000 and 2004. He was born in 1980. So, he was 20 and then 24. With over 300 fights(most of them against fellow cubans).
Most of his opponents were 17-18 years old. Some of them older than that but none of them have the same experience. None of them have over 150 fights.
In other words, he wasn't getting Pro Boxing money, but he was a professional fighting against amateur kids. Of course he was expected to dominate!!

Cuba have had some boxing stars. But most of the guys coming out of Cuba don't make it big at PRO because is not so easy when they aren't fighing inexperienced kids. Plus, dscipline is not the same when they have not guards watching them and the government is not feeding them.

:good I agree ive had this argument before on ESB with a certain Cubano poster who thinks Cuba will have a shitload of Cubanos in the PFP rankings in a few years. I think there will probably be a couple up there but they wont dominate the way they did in the amatuers.

Fact is, with Cubans we wouldnt know, Joel Casamayor enjoyed moderate sucess. Beatig the likes of Deigo Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, and Frietas ect only promblem he had were the judges. In the past, Cubans had moderate sucess too, but in the past, Puerto Ricans enjoyed moderate sucess too. It was only Wilfredo Gomez, who came from Cubas Amuatar background that Puerto Rico dominated in boxing, yet now Puerto Rico has superstar status in boxing, their is still much to be desired in their boxing program, like a gold medal, some championship wins ect. Cuba could very well be the next powerhouse in boxing. They already own the Olmypics.

They will have some good ones but they have also had Super star amatuers who have flopped big time on the pro level. First ones come to mind are Amatuer World Champions Jorge Gonzalez and Ramon Garabey.

but if ther free, they get international AM experince and than would have even more experince. I don't think their gonna stop once Castro and Raul are dead or ease tensions with United States. It'll just keep growing until they dominate in boxing.

I didnt quite understand what your trying to say about the stopping once Castro is dead etc.? What will keep growing?
Hey do you think Your boy Juanama can take Gamboa? He first has to get by my homie Steven Luevano first though.

boxing will not stop. Castro is not the only one pushing boxing in that country. Cuba will have sucess after him, in boxing. I'm with Juama, failure is not an option  if anybody can do it, its him. If it wasnt for that guy I cant type his name and too lazy to find his name cause hes a bum, yep, same one fighting gamboa, who lost to billy dip, didn't almost knock him out, I'm sure this wouldnt have been an issuse

Luevano dominated DiB . I think you are talking about MTagwa right?
Prior to the Mtagawa fight I would have definitly picked Lopez over Luevano, but now im giving Luevano a good shot in this one Hes a good boxer and a decent puncher. I think if its a close fight they wont give it to Luevano cause they dont want to ruin a fight with Gamboa which is the bigger matchup. Luevano has a draw with a Boricua Mario Santiago. What do you think of him?

Well i hope your right but i remember about 7 or 8 years ago everyone was excited about Panchito Bojado,Muhamad Abdallev,Kelson Pinto,Ricardo Williams and Miguel Cotto. As we all know Cotto was the only one that turned out to be a star. ****ing Panchito:patsch:-(

Frank Gomez whooped Benavidez easily back in the amateurs. Do you think Benavidez will always get whooped by Gomez due to styles? Benavidez was lost on the inside against Gomez.

I heard that fight was controversial. I saw some of it on youtube but the footage isnt that great. Benavides has a big plus on his side by having Roach in their. Hes already a big talent i can just imagine how much better hell be with Freddie. Im partial to Gomez as he comes from the same gym i trained at as a youngster. Actually these are my 2 favorite prospects, although i know they will most likely meet down the line.

I know Frankie is with Golden boy now. Did he keep his same trainer from the amatuers or get a new one?
