He threw very few punches of any description against Page from what I can remember. But yeah, even at his best he didn't go downstairs as consistently as Margarito does.

Definitely possible, but could also be from plain taking too many shots. I think Quartey would go to town on him, especially given Margarito's slow starts.

Margarito/Quartey is pretty much 50/50 IMO. Either Quartey holds on to a close decision win while fading late in the fight or Margarito stops him in the 11th or 12th. I'd probably lean towards the former, as Quartey was just plain better than Cotto, though not as good a mover, which would make him more hittable throughout the fight.

I'm not the biggest Quartey fan, but i think Margarito is a bit too much of an unskilled labourer to beat him. He'll toil away and make things tough, but doesn't really have the power or technique to really get to quartey imo.

He telegraphs everything he throws adn Quartey's defence will work quite well against him i feel.

It's the relentless, huge hitting, even if basic left-hookers that will bother Quartey..Demarco, Cuevas, Trinidad, Lopez as we saw etc...

I think you may be undecrediting Margarito's variance in his shot selection.
I think Margarito is the physically stronger Welter over Quartey.
He'd have Quartey on the backfoot.
.....and Margarito's variance in his shot selection I'd think would break Quartey's high guard defense.....if you've payed attention to Margarito's shot selection, he goes straight with his shots, he loops them over and across....digs unmercifully to the body....and while the opponent is crouched from the body punishment, he comes under with uppercuts.
Margarito's shots are far from textbook, but I get a sense that he knows exactly what he's doing with his shot selection.
That uppercut of Margarito I feel could find a comfy home on Quartey late in the fight.

Scientist, I'm not so certain that Quartey is that much more of a puncher than Cotto.
I even believe Cotto has an overall better game boxing, slugging, and punching to both head and body.

In any regard, Quartey would present a difficult task to most anyone.
That jab of his is as good as it gets. There is real power in that jab of Quartey......and it certainly its straighter and more accurate than any of Margarito's shot.....so you know its going to land plenty.

.....Quartey is more skilled, but darn if stamina, will, and determination is'nt a hard beat. Just ask Miguel Cotto!:yep

Scientist, (outside of a cut stoppage) no way do I see Quartey stopping Antonio Margarito, and certainly not in 6 rounds.
Quartey is right there in front of you pumping that jab, I'm wondering for just how long that jab would be effective with Margarito swarming all over him.
I could definitely see Margarito taking Quartey's jab away from him by taking the fight to Quartey at close quarters, and making Quartey have to fight his fight.
Cotto for example used his legs to circle Margarito, how do you see Quartey fighting Margarito with Margarito applying suffocating pressure?

In dont believe I ever saw Quartey run around the ring, he's a fighter that stands his ground and shoots the jab.....refresh my memory or convince me otherwise, but the more I think about it, the more I'm liking Margarito.

I agree however, great matchup. Certainly not an easy fight for either.

I can almost guarantee that Zab Judah wouldn't have lasted 11 rounds with Ike, nor would Ike spend his time on the backfoot in the last rounds against a 36 year old Mosley.

To me it comes down to this, Quartey is quicker, stronger (both physically and mentally - I'd like to see Cotto stand up to the barrage DLH put on Ike at the end of their fight; showed huge heart there) and more powerful than Cotto. Cotto has some nice variety to his boxing, he's even a bit more fluid than Quartey, but Quartey just has physical tools that Cotto doesn't come close to matching.

That Margarito was able to walk through Cotto's shots doesn't suggest to me that he would be able to do it to Quartey. Quartey was a whole different animal to Cotto. About the only thing they share in common is suspect stamina.

I question how long Margarito can last standing in front of Quartey. He is so hittable, and Quartey hits with such pace and power that it will be a hard gig to see him doing it for long. Margarito has shown a more than sturdy chin so far but I don't think he has met anyone with the firepower and skills that Ike brings.

After Maestrito knocked him down he spent the remainder of the 11th and the 12th rounds running from him. Didn't look graceful, but Lopez wasn't able to cut the ring off on him and work him over - though he did expend himself going for the KO.

Even if Margarito does get Quartey in trouble though, he has shown me plenty of balls to think that he could survive some rough moments. He has mental toughness beyond Miguel Cotto imo.

THis is a tough one:think I think Lopez is one of the biggest underachievers in recent years, he was a very good fighter and blessed with amazing power and an amazing chin. His problem he didnt like to train and he fought lazy in the ring. He could have kod Quartey and Page had he decided to let his hands go. If you wanna see him at his best check out his fight with a Prime yori boy he just completely dominated him and hurt him like no one had or has since. I feel when Lopez let his hands go he was a much better fighter than Margarito. However the reason i said this is a tough fight to decide is because Lopez was so inactive and fought lazy. IF the Lopez who fought Page shows up i think Margarito would be to busy and outwork him by convincing decision.

However the one who fought Yori boy was an indestructible machine and hed easily laugh off Margartios best shots. For as great as a chin as Margarito has i think he would fall against a top version of Lopez. THat Lopez would stop Margo in the mid rounds in a great fight.

    did lopez have fast hands?

if so then it is very rare that you find a fighter with a great chin, great power and fast hands.

He didnt exactly get off fast, but once he started getting his shots flowing he had pretty decent speed. Definetly faster than Margarito.
