The Mayorga that beat Forrest vs the Lopez that beat Campas? I say Lopez stops him within 8. The Lopez that beat Campas was a BEAST. He beat Yory Boy up worse than anybody else did. Lopez had too much power, and was too accurate in throwing combos for the wild Mayorga.

Yeah Ricardo has to much bravado...He would learn pretty quick the folly of letting Lopez tee off on him.

Lopez had his flaws aswell but when he was focused he had the tools to really put the hurt on someone.
Very fun fight whilst it lasts...and Mayorga had a better chin at welter...before he took a beating from Tito.

I actually think people underrate Mayorga's ring generalship...he wasnt totally lost defensively and has shown a good sense of distance when he brings those unorthodox shot winging it.
But really I dont think thats helping him here..just because its underrated does not mean its particularly good.

Lopez was a very underated fighter with really good power. His drug problems held him back from accomplishing a lot more in the sport. Mayorga had little skills, but good power and stupid.

What kind of drug problems did he have, exactly?

Makes sense. I just thought he was lazy and disintered in the sport.

Yeah but it sounds like he preferred surfing over a boxing, which is detrimental to say the least.

Ricardo Mayorga wins this. People forget Mayorga TWICE beat a man who had twice beat Boxings # 1 p4p.

Yes, when Forrest's injuries started hampering his career. Second time around, some people actually gave the fight to Forrest.

There's a reason Forrest soon after took years and years off from the sport.

Not sure he beat him in the second fight. The first fight Forrest had no respect for Mayorga and got caught. Mayorga was knocked out by every meaningful fighter he faced after that with exception to a shot Fernando Vargas.

Lopez could punch equally as well and had a better chin.

Mayorga got inside Forrest's head ala Carter-Griffith in their first encounter...Vernon tried to trade with him and rest is history.

I scored the 2nd fight a draw..A fight in which Forrest showed he was the better, more skilled fighter but was so mentally affected from the first fight he fought scared for majority of the rematch.

Dont really see how that fight is relevant here...Lopez would have been more comfortable in the trenches with Mayo.

Im a huge Lopez fan and Ive never heard of him doing cocaine. I know he was a pothead, but cocaine? Id have to see some proof of this. Lopez was a fascinating guy. He was really just a laid back bohemian beach bum. At the height of his boxing popularity he took off on a months long back packing tour of europe. And for the record, I think he would have starched Mayorga. I think Mayorga is underrated based on his losses to tito and DLH and was actually a pretty good fighter (thought he got robbed against Spinks), but stylistically Lopez would be all wrong for him.
