Bujia, anyone else. Is it correct that Medel pulled this off against a near prime (if not prime) Harada?
Yeah, pretty much. It's a prime example of how one well placed shot is all it takes to turn a fight 180 degrees. Harada was winning very handily prior to the KO.
Harada went out swinging. Medel was very good at fighting off the ropes, although it later cost him against Efren Torres when he was knocked out cold while trading left hooks.
Yeah, just watched this. Harada was plenty sharp. His balls to the wall style just caught up to him. I was aware of this result, but having seen it, it's raises Medel's stature in my eyes and indeirectly Jofre's. Medel was getting beat clearly but not overwhelmed and got his shot in, then finished.
Oh bumcrust, I'd been thinking about starting a thread on this :fire..... Medel was top frigging class in his prime, and this loss made Harada a better fighter to my eye. He became less gung-ho and a bit more controlled, which was one of the reasons he was subsequently able to pip Jofre (and Medel himself in the rematch). Medel was a bit unlucky to come along in this particular era (though his lack of presence would have diminished it).
Harada was all over him definitely. But Medal despite being outclassed at times did show some very commendable things like determination and obviously crushing power. I liked how in the third Medal has some success behind his jab as he times Harada, and obviously shows that he is a thinking fighter but Harada adjusts well and battles back madly. And after that Medal starts to work on attrition like punches with his uppercuts to the head and body. Medal for being a 'one punch wonder' in this fight went about it well, his ability to think while under fire is phenomenal.
