Co-featuring alongside Wade Ryan vs. Dennis Hogan in Brisbane on March third. WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight title at stake, fourth defense of Noynay. The young and then-undefeated Queenslander was upset by the barnstorming Filipino southpaw last July in the co-main event of Tszyu vs. Sparks, via TKO5. A point in the Aussie's favor is that he was victorious (unanimously on everybody's card in the RBR) in both of the rounds in which he didn't get dropped. Against him is the bald fact that he was indeed dropped in half of the completed rounds, and 4x altogether in three separate rounds of five starts. Given those aspects, this is honestly quite a bit more intriguing than what tops the Fox & Kayo Sports bill. Not that Mayo vs. Hurricane will be a bad watch per se; they'll both have a go and bring the hustle to entertain as much as you can expect from a pair of busy, tough, feather-fists ...but I'd be surprised if this one doesn't steal the show.
From what Ive seen, Liam is a naturally talented sportsman. Not sure what happened lats fight cause I saw replays from a horrible ringside camera video. He'll need to avenge this loss in semi- convincing fashion imo - Noynay is no mug.
This is an all or nothing play. Got to hand it to Liam for trying to right that loss immediately. I picked against him then and I think I'm going to have to do the same this time. Noynay is sending him night night.
If Wilson's chin is up to it, he has the skills to win. Big if. Particularly coming off a kayo defeat to the same opponent. He's fighting in his home town though so you never know. I've got second place in the forum tipping comp riding on Liam Wilson's chin. Hmmm.
I bet the house on Noynay in the first fight and was almost 100% sure that he's going to maul and stop Wilson and he did. If he had a proper camp for this one he'll win again. There are levels to this game and Noynay is at least one or two above. And his style is all wrong for a guy like Wilson. I have no idea why Wilson wants a rematch. He was dominated and dropped 100 times. He'll get hurt bad again.
I took Noynay last time even though I hadn't seen him fight before but I checked his record and I have been saying since day one to my Aussie pals that Wilson has a glass jaw like most Queenslanders. Wilson comes across as a complete ***** so I hope he gets destroyed again. Wilson's only hope is to some how survive the distance as the fight is in his home town the dodgiest most corrupt state in all of Australia Queensland.
What hot garbage is this? Apparently the headline act is actually the pro debut of Nikita Tszyu (brother of Tim, younger son of Kostya) versus fellow novice Aaron Stahl. Absurd, but now that I think about it not really atypical for the circus that is Aussie boxing. So that means if you aren't Down Under, you have to get up very early to see both Ryan vs. Hogan and especially Noynay vs. Wilson II, since this is airing on Fox Sports 505 in Oz from 6-10pm local time in Brisbane (listed as 7-11 on the programming guide on Foxtel's website if you leave it on the default setting, which is Sydney, an hour ahead). The current time as of this post is quarter of midnight (quarter of nine in the morning EST) - so for east coast Americans the card is transpiring from 3-7am.
Christ almighty. I knew they would have him high up but this is taking the ****. Hogan-Ryan and Wilson-Noynay are both legit crossroads fights with some significance. Timbo had far more humble beginnings before cashing in on the surname. Nikita is straight up being Campbell Hatton'ed to the top of the bill. Puts a lot of pressure on a young lad.
Seems he isn't even coming off a hotshot amateur run or anything. I guess he was 4x national champ (for what that's worth in Oz) but...he gave it up 5 years ago to pursue a degree in architecture? So, half a decade off from the sport and he magically from nowhere gets a hype rocket strapped to his back? Have to imagine there'd be zero chance of this if Tim hadn't kicked down the door and done all the heavy lifting of bringing the family name back in the public eye.
From memory there was a lot more groundswell about Tim when he was coming along as an amateur. But some have said that Nikita is more athletically gifted than Tim and might make more of an early impact on the pros. When he was an am his focus and heart wasnt in it at the time, plus like his brother he had some injuries.
