Very true, fury is elite but Davidon is the one that was there to help him through the most difficult part of his career.
At least if this is confirmed it could potentially answer a few questions about both men. Sceptics are critical of each of them, but there's also signs of potential in each. I always felt Parker had a far higher ceiling than we've seen him reach. It could be a good match-up if Parker is willing to embrace a new approach and Davison is able to translate a good way with words into tangible improvements in style and approach.
Might have jumped too early Abel Sanchez has entered into discussions . https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/comba...-dilemma-as-he-weighs-up-classy-coach-options
Might take years to deprogram him and purge his bad habits. Don't expect an overnight re-imagined Parker. This could take years. And on Barry - how much blame do we put on him and how much onus is on Parker to display some sporting intellect and discernment of the finer nuances of boxing and work out himself how to get over the line against the upper echelon boxers and look scintillating vs the mediocre ones?
One thing that puzzles me. Parker seemed better pre-2017 when fighting Takam, Dimitrenko, Ruiz. Why did he become more pedestrian after that? What changed?
As rightly pointed already in this thread, Davison is not right for him. He's the tools to become a very very good fighter. He's just way too nice inside the ring, if he wants to take the next step then he needs to learn how to dig in and fight dirty.
It was probably the opposition. Hughie Fury was a real spoiler. Then the AJ debacle. The Whyte fight wasn't too bad to be honest. People started to work Parker out. Ruiz probably didn't do his homework, which is unsurprising. Ruiz would probably win this time if he came in reasonably prepared. Takam was a close fight and, hell, Dimitrenko was arguably Parker's peak performance, even with the low blow and all. At least it showed us he still had some mongrel in him. He's all about the business now IMO. His Davison move is probably more political than seeking improvement. To show he's reinventing himself. I wont hold my breath for anything new from him. He's shown his ceiling for me and it's kinda upper echelon gatekeeper
Why Parker needs most to to get back to his pre title ways, and not safety first boxer. I don't think a trainer can provide a new spine and set of balls. Apologies to the Parker fans. He fights like he does not want to get hit and risks little. With a limited reach and skills he has, he's not taking Fury or Joshua, especially being safety first. Heck he's not taking Whyte either or probably not an in shape Ruiz jr. An upper echelon gatekeeper sounds about right. Who might have helped him as trainer? Cus D'Amato, or maybe Richie Giachetti. Old school guys who expect their man to do combat.
If Parker was Holyfield, Norton, Frazier etc. he would have relied on his iron chin to win some epic fights. I think he has probably gone about it the right way. We, as fans, want to see boxers "take one to give one" This man has a family, and seems to have made his decisions based on that. It's not you guys getting smashed in the head
Lee is the one who advised Fury to bring in Sugar Hill & Lee plays his part in that team also. Basically Parker is joining the Fury squad WOO I don't see Parker going out of his way to train with people he doesn't know.
