Not that they fight similar styles, but he is a bit like Tony Tucker to me. Almost, but not quite elite.
Parker's always had crazy athletic talent, and a ton of heart and toughness to go with it. But something isn't there, some streak of viciousness. He also has been coming into fights heavy these past few years, which might hint at laziness in the gym. He also stayed with Barry for way too long, but that was obvious to everyone but him. I wouldn't call him a waste, more a classic example that you need more than just physical talent and toughness to make it to the top.
Exactly. He is bulking like mad since he switches trainers. He should have dish his old trainer quite some time ago, but he should have find a better one. Also the bulking part is beyond stupid. You should always be a 12 round fighter, and if you can't do it at a certain weight, just f***** go down in weight for god sake. I would say his perfect weight should be around 230-235. 104-108kg. But no the id**** is coming at 255.4lbs, almost 116kg. against Joyce of all .... Fired the whole team and rebuild with a new coach and a completely new mindset. Ditch all the people around him as well.
First guy to win a heavyweight world from that continent let alone his country made vasts amount of money had huge stadium fights he’s not really done to bad for himself.
I think it's more of a strategy thing. They decide to turn him into some "monster" with putting more and more into his punches and become a KO artist. I have read some b.c. from his trainer and what he wanted Parker to be. It was some b.c. like that. He should have never go for that weight. Not even close. He need to be 20+ pounds lighter for sure.
His best weight was around the 230s. That's when he looked blisteringly quick and explosive. But he was also in his early twenties so he could have just been a guy who burned out early.
Parker seems like one of those guys that doesn’t really like boxing and just goes with the motions. He never improved at all since his early prospect days.
Exactly. Weight is not everything Just because you are gaining 20 or 30 pounds, doesn't make you a better fighter. With him, and actually with many more make them a lot worst. He should have focus on his speed, and improve his overall game. He had good overall game, with good defense, solid jab, good power punches as well, his stamina was fine(not great or perfect), and just needed to max his ability and focus on his strengths. Terribly choice what he decide to become.
joyce made him fight all 3 minutes of each round early on and drained him of his energy quick. Again they should have been prepared for that. Parker team knew that all along. It should have not been that way, cause parker found a little bit of a second wind in the later rounds but not enough.
No. Joseph Parker's had a better boxing career than most. He won a world title, and was competitive in several fights with top heavyweights.
He tried being elusive and slick vs AJ and Whyte and came unstuck. Then he bulked up and tried to stand his ground against JJ. Those gameplans seem to be around the wrong way to me. This new regime seems to be the one size fits all Fury approach. Parker didn't carry the extra weight very well though, he was taking rounds off from Rd4 onwards. While he's naturally athletic this is almost detrimental to his offence. Everything is choreographed perfectly, there wasn't a single punch all night that Joyce didn't see coming. Compare this to Joyce with the check hook KO, Parker had his glove up to block a conventional hook and never saw the shorter hook coming. Great example of not only mixing punches but mixing the delivery of those punches. That said he has made multiple millions of dollars and not suffered heavy damage until today. I think in terms of ROI he's overachieved financially.
