I was disappointed with last night.

Not with Joshua, but with Johnson.

It was all too easy. Joshua can only beat what is put in front of him and I don't think I will have been the only one who detected over-hyping of this fight a few weeks ago.

However, AJ still had to put Johnson down and he did so. Had it not been for the bell, that was a 1st round KO and nobody else has come close to doing that against Johnson.

He did everything he needed to last night but the fight wasn't the step up in class that is required at this stage of his career.

People referring to his power being similar to Foreman or him having a Tyson-esque aura are getting a little (lot) carried away in my view.

He has everything he needs to go a very long way, but he is a very long off right now.

As for Tyson Fury, I don't agree with anyone who thinks Fury will spark Joshua. A man who keeps getting knocked down is not going to be a huge challenge to a man who keeps knocking people out. Yes, Fury is a big man, but if anyone seriously thinks Joshua is so much smaller than him that he'd be intimated by him, I'm not sure how you can come to that conclusion.

Price being suggested as an opponent is interesting but I can't imagine him wanting to take that risk (David, I mean).

The reality is that I don't think we'll see people queuing up to fight Joshua. Why would you? The power is obvious and he is looking increasingly difficult to hit. That doesn't bode well for any opponent other than the well established and serious HW's who Hearn is unlikely to want to put Joshua in with yet.

The nightmare opponent for Joshua would be someone like Haye but, as he's out of the picture now, I think AJ will continue to impress at a slow pace of progression but will get there eventually - and I do think he'll become a world champion one day.

 

One thing people will forget about this match-up is that Fury is both the bigger man with the FAR superior footwork. Joshua has been able to plod his way over to the ropes and just start unloading on his opponents so far.
Price was making $hit look easy in the same way until he fought someone with clever (and not even fast) footwork in Thompson.

He'd have to catch Fury first, then get past Fury's much longer and superior jab (which can be either orthodox or south-paw) then when he is in range for his hooks, he'll have to not get too close or he'll get out-worked on the inside or smothered.

This match-up is no walk in the park for either fighter but if Fury survives the power till round 4, he strolls away with it I think.

 

I agree. His destruction of opponents is probably having a very similar impact on the minds of other heavyweights that a young Mike Tyson's performances had. Some guys will be getting intimidated.

Joshua has an habit of smiling to his opponents after hurting them. He was grinning at Johnson already at the pre-fight staredown. Never seen anything like that.

And immediately after the stoppage he was practically laughing.
