People are oblivious to the fact that Ortiz rarely looks spectacular against spoilers. Scott, Allen, Kaufman, and Hammer all laid back trying to survive. He still won almost every round in these fights. Nothing really changed.

Ortiz is like a Chinese whisper. It started out with the basic, “he’s a decent fighter” and now it’s somewhere between him discovering Victoria’s Secret or singlehandedly stopping the 300 Spartans.

Ortiz is a joke in heavyweight division. Probably to bring some hype to the division due to the lack of talented challengers against 3 giants (AJ, Wilder, Fury).
After Klitschko, the division became boring. AJ, Fury & Wilder despite being huge in size and having 0 losses in career, lack the fame & dominance which Klitschko had.
They made up the AJ vs Wilder rivalry, which in my opinion has no importance, because both guys don't have bright resumes yet.
To fire up the competition, they threw names like Ortiz, Parker, Whyte etc.

ortiz is still a good fighter
but he has no backing and so after 30 fights and many years a pro he has 1 win over a top 20 fighter

at 40 he needs to either get a title shot or his backer throw money at a whyte/breazeale/ and get a 1 ranking

i think he will be frozen out / no financial backing to get a title shot and to risky to get a voluntary.
cuban heavys always seem to come up just short as pros

Jennings, Hammer, Scott and Thompson all are current or former Top 20 HWs.

The Ortiz of the Jennings fight would’ve been made for a fantastic 50/50 fight imo, but I think he’s the lost the speed and reflexes he’d need to reliably counter and defend against Joshua, and his I suspect his decline will sharpen as he hits 40. As someone mentioned earlier, his defense has never been great, and Joshua throws a lot of hard, fast, and accurate punches. Ortiz would go out swinging but Joshua’s combination of speed, power, size, and skill would be way too much for him at this point. The great ring IQ and skills are still there, but there comes a point where the body can’t do what the mind wants it to.

As daft as this sounds to some, I actually think this fight would make a lot of sense. If AJ disposes of Miller in quick fashion, without injury and too much physical strain, fighting Ortiz around Sept/Oct. time, in the States would keep the momentum right up there for AJ. If he was to crush Ortiz in less time and in easier fashion than Wilder, it would give a big boost to his profile and exposure level in the US and the clammer for the unification fight with Wilder would become irresistible.

It might even quieten the likes of Blue Blood, Tha Boxing Voice, Nestor and the other LDBC bias BS I keep hearing about Wilder, though I doubt it......

No way. With some of those guys If he beats Ortiz it’s because Wilder “took his soul.”

    ?????????
jennings is IMO a top 20 fighter even though he is ranked outside

hammer /scott /thompson at the time and in facy

    ???????????
jennings is a top 20 fighter even though he is rated outside and he was inside when ortiz faced him.

you rate hammer / scott and thompson at the time they fought ortiz as genuine top 20 in the world fighters ?

    joyce just beat stiverne
stiverne a man who had fought for a world title before he faced joyce

stiverne is a 1 round fighter who should not be ranked in the top 100 of anyones list no matter what his ranking.
thompson was 40 something ? had a look around looking for a nice soft place to land and has no ambition left

scott looks the part /and his record on paper is impressive but his best win in his whole resume of nearly 40 fights is the tony thompson that ortiz defeated in his previous fight

anytime he senses actual comp in front of him he boxes to survive and run for the hills

look at the chisora and wilder fights the man took a dive .
that is not the mentailty of a fighter who is in the top 20

hammer is a good journeyman if you are a promoter and want to take your prospect rounds
but hammer`s punch output is so low and he has no power that he is not a threat to the prospects.

me and you have different ideas of what a top 20 fighter is.

After the Klitschko's the division became boring? I think you got it the wrong way round, after the Klitschko's the division became more interesting because it's actually competitive. Wlad and Vitali were just head and shoulders above everyone else and it made their era more boring and predictable.

In this era we actually have rivalries that could be competitive. Wilder's resume is weak with only 1 good win, but AJ's is solid, Wlad, Whyte, Parker, Povetkin that's 4 top 10 guys he's beaten already in this era.

If you actually stick your head out of the Klitachko's butt you might actually realise this era which not great in terms of quality is far more exciting than the K2 era due to the number of competitive fights possible. Throw in Usyk as well when he debuts at heavyweight and this is the division to watch right now.

Ortiz is too hittable with that straight right hand. Joshua would wreck him in about three rounds if he really goes for it.
