This fight is this weekend. Concepcion is coming off a decent win over Mario Santiago. I personally thought Santiago underperformed in that fight, he started very slowly and only came on strong very late which was nowhere near enough. Before that Bernabe was in a close fight with Luevano but got him self DQ'd after he sparked Stevie after the bell. JuanMa, meanwhile, completely dominated Luevano before stopping him. After the initial hype there is now some scepticism about Lopez - mainly due to the Lontchi and Mtagwa fights. Against Mtagwa especially he boxed a really bad fight and blew himself out causing him to hold on for dear life in the 12th. His rep wasn't helped when Gamboa marmalised Mtagwa in 2. For me, Lopez is still improving. He can only have learnt from the Mtagwa fight and he put in a good performance against Luevano. I'm expecting something similar on Saturday, JuanMa dominating the fight before scoring a stoppage in the 2nd half of the fight. Nonito Donaire is on the undercard and is once more in a mismatch This time his opponent is Hernan "Tyson" Marquez who lost a wide decision last time out. Despite this, he still gets a shot at Donaire :huh. I'm not quite sure what is happening with Donaire. He's a real quality fight but hasn't capitalised on that win over Darchinyan at all. His level of opposition since has being dire. IMO, we've got two one sided fight but for JuanMa it'll be a decent learning fight as Concepcion can be a bit awkward. Anyone going for the upset in either fight?
I like Lopez but i get impression he's heading for a loss sometime soon. Donaire i totally given up with now (opponent wise..great boxer though). I'd expect them to win but sooner rather then later both could end up losing.
I reckon Juanma will have an awkward first few rounds. I also think Bernabe will hold on to the end I'm still not sold on Juanma's i think a loss is coming but not against Bernabe. They have been building this Juanma Vs Gamboa thing for too long. I read a few things about Donaire on the general saying he is having trouble making weight and has been walking around at 140?? Probably bull****. If its true you have to wonder if Marquez can drag Donaire into the late rounds could he show us his "Tyson power". I seen the other Marquez fight he looked terrible very easy to outbox and slow on his feet.
JuanMa takes Concepion in an entertaining brawl. I don't read too much into the fight with Mtgawa. He was winning comfortably but expended too much early on, combined with dropping weight. He won't make that mistake again. He'll get better, and he utterly thrashed the sound Luevano. That bodes well for his discipline against Gamboa who still makes dreadfully amateur mistakes but has the athletic gifts to get away with it. Something that wouldn't be so easy with Lopez. And I think Gamboa's a bit chinny.
That's the only reason I'll be cheering JuanMa this weekend. The little lamb will be getting sent to be slaughtered come Sep :yep
I think JML should beat Concepcion handily. Pretty rountine defence. I look forward Lopez taking on the big boys soon like Marquez and Gamboa. Same thing for Donaire really, routine. I really like Donaire but the guy can't catch a break. Between promoters leaving him with shitty defences or generally screwing him and boxers ducking him, he has had a pretty rough time of it despite the great win over Darchinyan. His skills are being wasted on mediocre fighters at the moment. Hopefully soon he gets the chance to show off his abilities against some top notch fighters.
Concepcion works in spurts, Lopez has a good engine works the whole 3 minutes and can swarm abit, which would disrupt Concepcions in the pocket counter-punching. Really dont see how Juan Ma can lose.
