I wouldn't find it absurd to have Juan Manuel Marquez listed among the top 100 greatest fighters of all time. The only problem I have is that some people still persist on ranking him above his Mexican contemporaries Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera. Two fighters with superior resumes, and who have signature wins against great fighters at their peak. I'm not penalizing Marquez because he was badly managed during his prime at 126lbs, but you have to do the ground work. We were robbed of some magnificent match-ups at Featherweight.

Marquez still has time, he shouldn't be thinking about retiring right now - he just moved up two divisions and went the distance with arguably the best fighter in the world. He can be very competitive with the Junior Welterweights, and perhaps still dominate down at Lightweight. He still has time, but I don't see any names at Lightweight that can catapult him into the same league as a Barrera or Morales. He'd either have to win the elusive 4th title up at 140lbs, or literally clean up a division south of there.

    Goodluck to him.

Just bumping this thread to re-evaluate this topic after Pac's win against Cotto.

Many are now convinced that Pac is one of the very best of all time. Many are also convinced that Marquez has at least one victory over him and at the very least has held his own against him over 24 rounds. So where does Marquez stand in the grand scheme of things?
