I'd like to see him fight someone that's actually world-rated. Fana, Martinez II, Uchiyama, Aoh, even Malcolm Klassen are viable options.
Although I dong think the fight will happen surely ppl can't be pissed with seeing a British fighter in with juanma for a 'world title'? If billy nelson and burns would take it then why not?
With all due respect to Billy he has a excellent point about Martinez :good Lets be honest who is Juan Manuel Lopez 30-0 (27) compared to Evensen and the winner of Burns Layera :happy
Cant see this happening, lopez has just moved up and has a big money clash with gamboa on the horizon, he could even give marquez a rematch or other good scraps with rojas, john, caballero and gonazalez if he wanted. Burns has just won the SFW title and id like to see him attempt to unify it with Fana or Uchiyama. Maybes in 2012 if Burns unifys this could be a big fight but for now i think they need to build him a little more before throwing him to the elite
I see were everyones coming from but if your not in it you won't win it and lets face theres not a lot of British fighters in a position to be in it and burns is! burns isnt scared to fight anyone fighters say it he means it!
And I fully respect that Billy. People knock fighters for not fighting the best if he fights JuanMA major props to the man. I'm not out to knock him I wished you all the best before the Martinez fight. In my opinion though(and I belive like the Martinez fight I'm entitled to that) I belive Lopez would beat him. I'm sure many people stateside would feel the same, that doesnt mean they're anti Burns/scottish or whatever else. But good luck
You can't win with some fans. If he carries on fighting people like Evensen then "he's taking fans for a ride and fighting bums" if he tries to step up to fight someone like Lopez then it's "why's he fighting him, he'll get flattened?" If Burns wants to fight someone like Lopez, then fair ****s to him for giving it a go even though I can't see any way for him to win it
I don't think anyone is attacking him for taking a fight with JuanMa. Most just think it might be a smoke and mirrors act by the promoter, or else they're just stating their opinion on what might happen if the fight took place (ie: Burns would stand little chance of winning).
The 'Puerto Rican Assassin' can strike again. OK JuanMa will be a big favrouite, and deservedly so, but it isn't out the realms of possibility that Burns boxing to a superb gameplan can upset him, is it?
And Ricky Burns knows this very well. All I am saying is, Burns is a true champion seeking out the tough challenges and I wont be disappointed in him even if he loses, a proper champion rather than a belt-holder.
Well if it comes off this definitely will be in the" things we wouldnt have predicted happened in 2011 thread"
