If he didn't outbox him, how was he landing over 50% of his punches in the late rounds against a supposed defensive wizard?

People really aren't giving Juanma his due for this one.

JuanMa is an awesome fighter. Imo he fought exactly like he was supposed to fight a smaller man. That was the game plan and he stuck to it.

he shut the guy out by winning all rounds convincingly...sounds like a clinic to me.

I wish I hadn't missed the fight, but glad to hear JuanMa looked impressive in his victory.

It's not a boxing clinic if you don't box, what's so hard to understand about that....Juanmas 1 of my favorite fighters and I was rooting for him, and I was impressed as always by his fight but, **** was a beatdown, not a clinic

Not to say that he can't box and doesn't have skills, but he just didn't outbox him, he outbanged him, which was the smart thing to do

    Also, his stamina impressed me,...

Juanma definitely put on a boxing clinic but I still give Penalosa a credit in taking the fight against insurmountable odds. I think Penalosa bit more than he could chew in this fight as obviously the weight was too much for his old body or might be age has finally caught him. Gerry was not only the smaller guy, he was also slower. His cat like reflexes was no longer there. I think it's a good decision for Roach to stop the fight though I was hoping that Gerry might be able to pull a surprise in the championship rounds as he had done a few times his younger days.

I agree with everyone who says that he outbanged Penalosa. To outbox someone you have to shut him out with defense as well as offense. Penalosa was landing shots on Juanma they just didn't have the required effect because of the size and power difference.

This was not a boxing clinic. A boxing clinic is like what PBF/JMM/Ricardo Lopez mostly do to their opponents. Anyway 122 is too big for Gerry as his power doesn't command the same respect to his opponents in the lower weights.. Great win though by Juanma.

it was, i didnt think Juanma was that big and strong, but i was basing it against Ponce de leon which i thought was bigger. Clearly Juanma is no joke and should stay on top a few more years.

that size would'nt last long at 122, soon he'd have to move up and face the linareses and gamboas of the world

not a boxing clinic. Juanma walked through penalosa. He is the bigger, better, younger fighter last night

It's not a boxing clinic, it was an overpowering beat down. Juanma fought like a possessed man.

i don't think it's called boxing clinic. juanMa rained punches to gerry. gerry was atleast waiting for juanMa to slowdown or waiting for juanMa to throw only 3 punch combinations as opposed to the usual 5-6 punches. no signs even at round 9.

Now more than ever I think that Juanma takes Gamboa... I don't think that Gamboa can asimilate like Penalosa did... Big props to Penalosa... he really tried his best at all times. Even the people at the arena in PR had to give him his props.
