Chavez has improved under Roach. He's sharpened his primary weapon, the left hook. He's learned some defense while coming forward.

He isn't flawless, though.

Manfredo was only ever basic (as basic as it gets, really) and his talents have eroded.

Chavez will be the younger, fresher, faster, stronger man with the better coaching.

I don't think he'll stop the Pride of Providence though. Only Bika ever did so legitimately and it was in a moment of pure snarling fury. (the Calzaghe stoppage was absolute nonsense)

 

god the fight has better be entertaining or I'll fall asleep before round 4

 

Shame, I dont disagree but its a shame a guy like tyner has to lose

In terms of personality, yeah.

Inferior boxer, though.

Augustus would have schooled Tyner.

 

Had that last week at the Bradley vs Casa fight... made it to round 5 though :-((

 

Tyner is a weird guy. He seems like he just doesn't give a ****.

He scored a huge upset on Showtime against Antwone Smith and got some career momentum going...then squandered it with some lazy performances going 0-1-2 in his next three.

Then he again beats a big name in Vivian Harris...and you'd think he'd want to preserve that momentum coming in against Omotoso, but no. Clowning and letting himself get punched in the face and giving away rounds with wild swinging, clinching and showboating.

Maybe he just enjoys fighting?

this is the first ive heard of the guy but he made that fight entertaining and you have to give him credit for his chin and the size difference not bothering him. he pushed the other guy back and wasnt out classed despite the score cards.

I definietly want to see more of the guy not saying hes a world beater but some fighters just make you want to watch them even if you know they arent going to win but this guy has a tremendous chin, punches hard and puts on a show. that was a good fight

 

Round 1

Smith drifts one way and the other on the outside. Pinzon tries to slide in on him and land a right hand but misses. Smith is countering well, using lots of movement and catching Pinzon with a right to the face coming in. Hug. Pinzon comes forward and jabs but gets parried. Clinch. Elbows to the back by Pinzon as Smith ducks. Smith circles right and jabs, then covers up as Pinzon bashes in from the sides and rocks Smith off his footing a bit even as he gets blocked. Smith is a little light in the backside, easily moved around by shots whether he's blocking them or not. Good right hand by Pinzon.

Clottey fought a long time ago.

 

It's just weird that he doesn't seem to have any real dedication. String together wins over Antwone Smith, Vivian Harris and Oyewale Omotoso and you have someone probably in line for a world title shot. He takes two steps back for every one forward, though. Baffling.

Pinzon is throwing jabs and rights from outside, scoring a bit but gets countered. Smith circles left and shimmies his shoulders. Right hand by Smith. Pinzon blasts him back with a right. Right hand dropped low by Smith, deflected off the arms. Body shots by Pinzon. Clinch. Clean break. Both miss jabs. Right uppercut to the body coming forward by Pinzon. Smith jabs high while leaning back. Slingshot right hand by Smith. Uppercut by Pinzon.
