I actually feel that defensively both fighters are underrated, ut JCC edges him. I saw Taylor hit Chavez, but Duran doesn't have Taylor's handspeed. I saw Chavez against Chapo, one of the hardest punchers of the time, and saw Chavez' defensive genius.
I agree that both defenses are underrated but disagree with Chave'z defense being better,duran had better head movement than Chavez and he rolled with punches better than Chavez he was also a master of the feint,i would give the edge in chin for Chavez but not by much. I think that overall Duran was the better and more skilled fighter of the two,he simply could do more things than JC and had more weapons than JC. I cant see JC beating someone like Prime Leonard,outjabing a guy with the size difference that Barkley had over a 38 year old Duran like Roberto did or outboxing a guy like Dejesus from the outside. They are two of the greatest fighters ever and i have great respect for both but for me its Duran all the way in this case.
At 135 Chavez had really solid defense and moved much better...Duran's defense was not as good as J.C.'s I think that this fight would have shortened the career of both fighters. In the end Chavez would win his combo's are also underrated.

Christ, I can't recall who it was, but some assholes' a while back on ESB swore up and down that Benny Leonard would own Duran's ass in a time machine........ I just scoffed at them fools.........
