generally most champions or just plain fighters come from an impoverished background(not of their fault)my question is is has there ever been a champion or contender that came from a money family and the fighting wasnt really necessary to put food on the table and pay bills?

Eubank wasn't from a wealthy or comfortable background at all.
He grew up on the streets of east London and was poor, and spent much of his teenage years in the slums of the Bronx, New York.

Going back a long time now , but both Gene Tunney came from a wealthy family and was already rubbing shoulders with some the worlds great writers and hollywood moguls of the times before he got anywhere near the World Heavyweight Title. Also Max Schmelling and Max Baer both didnt exactly come from poorville.

    really depends.

paulie malignaggi was just a waster sitting aroudn in his grandmas house all day.....not really a impoverished background.

could even say the same thing about hatton. council estates are very varing. being on the council estate can mean poverty or middle class single family.

but in the be all and end all a fighter likes to fight, likes to be in a ring against somebody and being richer or poorer only adds to the need to fight.
what about golota had a very harsh background but still cant handle it.

good call on azumah nelson his family were an immensly rich family even by western standards. but growing up in accrah, the boxing meccah of africa gives you a chance to get in a ring.

Marco Antonio Barrera was from Mexico City middle class stock; he trained to be a lawyer.

was oscar de la hoys from a rich background i had heard he was

mayweather was comfortable but his dad was abit of a trouble maker and that so i think his family would have been a bit rough

I don't think DLH was; heard him getting interviewed one time and he was saying that things weren't easy for him when he was a kid, and that he always had rat traps in his bedroom to keep the vermin infestation under some sort of control.

I know Oscar came from East L.A., one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. 'Course that doesn't necessarily mean he was impoverished, but it's a pretty good indication.

i think i heard an interview where oscar said he always keeps a food token in his wallet to remind him of times he was poor and didnt have money! think it may have been 24/7 against flyod when he mentioned it

well you can be wealthy but not rich in a sense. eubank went to the bronx....and you know he didnt go by boat he flew...that means a decent amount of money.

i think most of us here are regarded as middle class but are strapped for cash
