the situation got tense between the mexicans and the pinos according to my friend. the pinos were gracious and shook all their hands diffusing the situation. Truth?
I agree with you on the part about getting annoyed with uneducated and disrespectful fans regardless of race. What I don't agree with is clumping those disrespectful fans and assuming all nationalities/races are that way. I'm sure there were plenty of dickhead Mexican fans as stated by the OP and plenty of dickhead Filipino fans as you witnessed (my uncle, a great boxing fan for years, was at the Cotto fight, a fight I recall you attended). It doesn't mean there weren't good well educated fans there as well. Oh yeah, I must be one of those in the minority who don't throw racial slurs at my TV screen when watching a fight. My parents did a great job raising me.
no doubt a lot of Mexicans are disrespectful at these sporting events i remember some years ago where Team USA played them in a soccer match in Mexico, and Mexicans were chanted "OSAMA OSAMA OSAMA" This was right after the 9/11 attacks. Mexicans are passionate but can get overboard at times. I watched Pacquiao in the Philippines fight Oscar Larios, and the pinoy fans treated Larios with the utmost respect there, no stupid anti-Mexican chants
Yup, I have that fight on DVD. It seems alot of the disrespectful Pinoy boxing fans are Filipino-Americans. Oscar Larios kept blowing kisses to the crowd after the Pac fight in gratefulness to the hospitality he received during his stay in the Philippines. David Diaz said he also got the star treatment while attending Pac's birthday. Eric Morales has had several TV commercials and even had his vacation there televised.
Yes, he gets star treatment there as well. Pac loves the common history the 2 countries share and always acknowledges his Mexican fans.
