Ruddock twice, Stewart, Bruno, Buster Mathis, Seldon, Botha, Golota, Savarese were a good set of wins
Those are still a pretty good set of wins. Big reason why I don't rank Tyson that highly in the 90's was due to the fact that he had low level activity. His record during that decade was like 9-3, which included some names like Tillman and McNeeley. But those other scalps are good.
seldon, mathis jr, savarese, stewart a bunch of cans, bruno had glass chin and ruddock was an overrated guy who at that time built his name because he stopped a shot michael dokes, holyfield, bowe, lewis OLD FOREMAN, every decent guy would have beaten ruddock in 1991
Michael Moorer could be very exciting and incredibly boring. His fights at light heavyweight and his heavyweight fights against Stewart, Cooper, Botha and the Holyfield rematch are all great viewing. But when you expected him to steamroll a guy at heavyweight - like light-hitting Vaughn Bean - he was so uninterested he nearly lost. And when you expected him to engage in a firefight with old punchers like Foreman and Bonecrusher, he'd turn into a scientific boxer and refuse to trade. Even when Evander was oozing steroids in their first fight, was totally gassed and couldn't lift his arms to punch, Moorer wouldn't attack. Every time you expected one thing from Moorer, he gave you something else. And more times than not it wasn't exciting. He's one of the few modern "World" (lineal) heavyweight champions who I'd pick to lose to just about every other lineal heavyweight champion of the 20th century. I'd even take guys like Jack Sharkey and Ingemar Johansson over Moorer. Tommy Burns ... he might lick Moorer, too. Leon Spinks - I'd pick NEON LEON over Michael. Moorer might get lucky and face one of them (like Holyfield the first time) when they were having an off night. But, head to head, at their best at heavyweight, Moorer was one of the worst world heavyweight champions ever. At light heavy, though, he was very exciting. Unfortunately, he never really faced any of the top guys there. So it's hard to gauge him in that weight class. Which is too bad, because that's where he was at his best.
Strongest Light heavy I've ever seen. His problem was he brought a light heavy chin to the heavies, combined with the fact that he didn't move his head.
There is a picture of Tyson and Moorer together, along with Steward, King and Mclellan, i used to have it as my avatar. They looked like they were in training outfits. I wonder if any sparring went down?
Its not bad considering that Tyson was off for about 6 years of the 90s. From 91-95 and then 97-99 (and then he was banned again in 2000?) But seriously, outside of the Holyfield wins, is Bowe and Moorers work in the 90s' that much better? Yes it was a great win, but one great win doesnt make a legacy
Tyson won his WBA title off Bruce Seldon. Seldon got his title because Old Georgie Foreman didnt want to face Tony Tucker so he dropped the belt instead. Bowe should have been DQd against Mathis, If Mathis was a can, why did Bowe struggle to put him away? Savarese went the distance with Foreman and Holyfield. Tyson disposed of him in about 30 seconds. Stewart? have you forgot what he did to Foremans face? Stewart was competitive with Holyfield, Foreman and Moorer. Tyson disposed of him in one round. Frank Bruno. Gave Lewis a much better fight than Tyson and Holyfield did before he was topped. Tyson won his WBC title off Bruno, who won it off Mcall who KTFO Lennox Lewis. They were not cans.
Yeah I remember that avatar. Awesome pic! I've seen it before in a Ring magazine, I believe. All 3 boxers looked the same size.
