I expected a close fight and wasn't too sure Rigondeaux could beat Donaire. After the fight my eyes are wide open about this guy. He is gonna be avoided like the plague. One has to give huge props to Donaire for taking the challenge.
This win was "bulletproof" for Rigondeaux. There's really no knocking it, and he deserves the accolades.
Not that great. I'd say it's more on par with Floyd's win over Corrales. Very solid, pretty historic, but Barrera was more accomplished than Nonito was and was beaten more emphatically.
Not to mention he did this as the smaller man in there. In the lower weightclasses, imo, its a rare thing to see someone beat a non faded, top 5 p4p fighter (close to their prime), who has momentum with them, and do it all while being the smaller man. Was an awesome win.
My thoughts exactly too(as related to Barrera-Naseem). As the bigger man, Barrera ultimately manhandled Naseem. Rigo didn't have that advantage to fall back on.
Would be interesting to see it again, when Donaire has access to his trainer during camp. Rigondeaux is not someone you can be underprepared for.
Roughly, yeah. Donaire and Corrales both fall short of being true ATG's, there's no question with Barrera. The main similarity I'm pointing to is they both achieved a level of accomplishment below Barrera.
The Naseen-MAB fight for all the historical revisions wasnt a one sided beating. MAB won clearly without even having Naz in trouble. Also MAB was already an established name when he fought Naz.
Corrales was creaming everyone just like Donaire was. He even went on to beat Casamayor, Freitas, and Castillo after the Floyd loss. Chico IMO gets underrated these days.
No, it really wasn't that one sided. But I'm sure what sticks in most peoples mind was the manhandling images.
