Absolutely cracking read he really was so instrumental in so many fighters careers from 60s-90s he was involved with virtually every major British fighter and many major legends as well as other well known figures Krays Marciano Ray Robinson Liston Ali Tyson Downes Winstone Bruno Conteh Honeyghan McGuigan Arum Warren and loads of others all feature full of interesting insights into the boxing world behind closed doors. There are some brilliant anecdotes in there would highly recommend this book you can get it from Amazon for £1 2nd hand. Worth reading about the man who controlled British and to an extent world boxing for 30 odd years Anyone else read it what did people think?
Not at the time of writing though that was 10 years ago i think he must be about 80 now good or bad he did a lot for bringing British fighters along and getting them titles
At was at a London ex boxers meeting a few years ago when Mickey fell backwards of his seat. Everyone looked over to see if he was alright and then one of the old fighters stood over him counting while he got up. Everyone had a good laugh, he took it all in good humour.
Not read it pal but was interested in doing so a while back. Gonna look on amazon now you've brought it up. Cheers :good
Does he mention calzaghe, calzaghe said nothing positive in his auto biography about duff, he even said he was ripping him off!
Honeyghan once told me when he was world champion he had an argument with Duff that turned heated and quote (he grabbed me by de troat)....
Didn't Calzaghe take Duff to court or something to get out of his contract? I heard Warren say that in his opinion he didn't think Calzaghe was being promoted enough. Then when the Eubank fight was signed Duff has meant to have objected saying that Calzaghe was being rushed.
I have read it and throughly enjoyed it, I have re-read it a few times since, a cracking read as you say.
I get the impression that Duff looks like a fairly harmless bloke and thats what drew you in but underneath all that he was hard as nails. I think him and Honeyghan had an on off relationship once at a press conference whilst sitting by Duff Honeyghan said how he hated Duff and he was holding him back and Duff just replied "there is nothing in our contract that says we have to like each other"
