Too much is made of what a "limited brawler" Mayorga was. He could box quite adequately. He just didn't 95% of the time because he's goddamn loco.
Here's how I scored it btw - Round 1 - Forrest Round 2 - Mayorga Round 3 - Mayorga Round 4 - Mayorga Round 5 - Mayorga Round 6 - Mayorga Round 7 - Forrest Round 8 - Forrest Round 9 - Forrest Round 10- Mayorga Round 11- Mayorga Round 12- Forrest Mayorga 115-113 Forrest. "This man is dangerous" :yep
mayorga took both fights fair and square buddy... he took the fight to that kid forrest big time but i dont know what some of you guys are saying.... this guy just cant box AT ALL.... he has no hand eye coordination, nothing.... try looking up any videos wheres hes doing speed bag.... buddy cant keep momentum to save his life LOL... i dont know why he lets people film him while hes doing that, its SO embarassing lmao and to prove he cant box.... go watch his latest fight against michael walker... its so funny... for a couple moments in the middle rounds he starts putting his boxer swag on, and tried to square up and jab like a real boxer... sht was so funny still, he has a real chance against cotto, and the press conferences will be chock full of win
The walker fight is completely irrelevent to whether or not Mayorga in his prime was a capable boxer, Mayorga is beyond gone at this point compared to what he was in the Cruz, Lewis, Forrest and Spinks fight, in other words, the fighter he was at his best when he was at 147. In the first Forrest fight alone, he showed he had decent footwork, could move his head when he wanted to, judged distance very well and used the ring effectively, circling and shooting out a jab (to both the head and body). Hes not the plodding predictable caveman that he would become later in his career .... The guy could box when he wanted to..... imo
^^ well yeah he could, then. but were talking about now... he has a big fight coming up soon still, the training footage leaves muchhhhh to be desired lmao
The other day? It was a month ago. He looked bad against Walker. He's probably done. Mosley was likely his last good performance.
Maybe... but if he loses the Cotto bout emphatically, then I think it's truely fair to say that Mayorga's last truely good performance was Shane. Haha, I dunno why, but I just really enjoy backing crazy ass Mayorga, more than any other self proclaimed "tough guys" in the sport today. In fact, I usually despise guys with the overly "tough guy" mentality. I dunno what it is about The Matador :!:
