    and a whinging git.

  2. The Reid fight was close but Ottke did enough I feel. The ref was appalling though.

I don't make a habit of watching Ottke but his first fight with Charles Brewer was a bit dodgey and the Byron Mitchell fight was also IMO.

Calzaghe would have smashed him up all over the shop.

Precisely, he was good at pretending to be the victim, a shrewd, heavy handed fighter with a lot of balls and a lot of brains. Wasn't he exceptionally good in school?

saw ottke box about 4 or 5 times.

he was awful to watch every time.

he'd usually run round the ring for a few minutes then go in with some late rd flurries to sway the judges his way.

and sadly it always worked.

from memory i had reid winning an awful fight.

ottke was very negative from what i remember (nothing new there then :patsch)

i had it 6-3-3 even rds.

shows how bad some of the rds were that i scored 3 of them even. :yep

Had a lot to complain about though didn't he?
I don't think people appreciate just what that Ottke fight did to him. The decision going against him completely altered his mindset as how to approach the Lacy fight. He travelled to the states under the impression that he had to visibly act the agressor during the fight, to prevent yet another dubious decision going against him. As it was when he went down from an illegal blow,(whilst turned away from Lacy), after the ref had called a break, and returned to his feet to find the ref acknowledging the legitimacy of the kd you could visibly see the desire ebb away. It was as if he he knew that he was going to get shafted yet again.

I am pretty sure that also was Ottke you smartass :D

  9. I've said it before, Ottke was definitely a talent, but the dirty tactics will always tarnish his reputation. Before the Reid fight I always thought there was a chance that Sven was uneasy with the preferential treatment he recevied, but watching that fight unfold, you could see that he himself was very much a part of it. I wonder if he looks back on any of it & feels ashamed.

I do think he'd have been a World Titleist regardless though, he could definitely fight.

Really, really felt for Reid, what would have been his biggest achievment taken away from him in such a manner. He'll never have that extra World Title on his record, ever.

    I'd be a bitter moaning **** too.

Reid was blown away by Lacy and I really dont think it was anything to do with the Ottke farce,he was simply out powered.Lacy at that time had an invincable aura about him,I thought when I watched that particular fight that he could become an elite fighter.

Reids interview at the end of that fight was down right embarrassing,he was like a kid, begging for a little credit.

Oh i'm not arguing that Reid was ever in the fight, but I seriously doubt he would've stood toe to toe with Lacy had he not got it into his head that he needed to conclusively portray himself as the agressor to prevent the judges from screwing him over again. As it was he was losing every round; when the first kd was counted you could see the thought running through his mind... 'not another bent/incompetent ref'.
That was the first kd he had suffered in his career; the referee had clearly called for a break in the action, Robin turned to face him, and that **** Lacy hit him after a clear delay. Rob went down, got up and found that not only was Lacy not going to be penalised, but that the kd was legit, and that he and not Lacy was to have a point deducted.
After that I think he just caved in/gave up, and I couldn't have blamed him.
James Slater who writes for the main page agrees with me. His words were that Robin's career would never have ended as it did, if he got the decision he deserved. Again I repeat, I don't think he would've stood and traded with Lacy if wasn't paranoid about another hometown decision going against him.

Fair enough,I get your point but at that stage of Reids career, his tactics would've made no difference to the outcome IMO.
