I didn't see the fight when it happened but from what most people were saying i thought Valuev won convincingly. However i watched it last night (i only saw the first 10 rounds. My ex had a 'mare and i had to take her call, which meant i missed the Hatton - Collazo fight afterwards as well ) and Ruiz fared better than i was led to believe.

He did get Jabbed to death, especially in the mid rounds when he couldn't move his head out of the way at all but he was landing the more powerful shots. When Valuev was tiring and not popping out that jab Ruiz was getting the better of him. I was also impressed with Ruiz's appetite for coming forward and not holding.

I had the fight level after 9 or 10 rounds. Wished i could have seen the last few rounds to see how it panned out.

I agree with you as the fight was about even after 10 rounds. Yes,
Valuev dominated rounds 7-9 with the jab.
But: Ruiz won round 11 very big and took round 12 on sheer will. Valuev was starting to feel the effect of those jabs to the body in the final rounds.

Besides the jab what did valuev do ?

Its not a vast minority at all. It was a close fight and the majority of people I've spoken with (that have actually seen the fight) said it could have gone either way, and I agree.

Now the first bout, clear robbery.

Agreed. Obviously, Ruiz having a German Promoter would have made a lot of difference in this fight. That is the sad reality over there. Just look at those official scores of 116-111, 116-112, they are rightout ridicoulous to say the least.

Like i say i didn't see the last rounds (will have to see if they have them on youtube) but i can imagine what you say happening. Valuev did appear to tire by the mid-late rounds.

The jab was Valuev's best weapon. He did land the occasional right but most power shots landed were by Ruiz. I did see Valuev land a good gut punch in the early rounds (round three i think) which made me laugh. It's rare you see a body punch from the big guy :yep

From what i saw Ruiz could have won the fight if he used his head a bit more. At times he was stumbling in of balance and throwing blind with a big right overhand whilst Valuev was jabbing. Because of this jab and Valuev's height the overhand right by Ruiz would hit Valuev's shoulder or bang the shoulder thus losing power and graze Valuev's face.

Ruiz did land some big shots but if he used his brain more and got his balance and foot work right he could have landed even more cleaner big shots. If Ruiz had done this then he would have been winning the fight on my scorecard.

I agree that Ruiz should have moved more his head, he was an easy target for Valuev's jabs jabs.

The point is that Ruiz arsenal was more complete, he landed uppercuts, hooks, hard body shots and jabs. Valuev was often content to jab. I agree that he did use the jab better though, but in my opinion he did not land enough of them to get the W.

I pretty much agree that Ruiz clearly won the first fight but this one really could have got either way.
I felt John did win it though.

    I agree with you.

"It could have gone either way". Generally, I agree with this statement.

But in reality, the statement is not accurate as the fight took place in Germany. You do not win close fights over there and sometimes even clear decsion ((like Ruiz-Valuev I) are being taken away from you. That is the bottom line.

Same in America, probably more so by the sheer fact they have more promotions. Ruiz-Valeuv I was no worse than De la Hoya-Sturm, in fact DLH-Sturm was probably way worse.

Happens everywhere, Germany seems like a big offender but its not that much worse than just about every other country in the world.

I used to think Australia was pretty fair with decisions, quite a few high profile fights went to the right man even if they were close sometimes. But there have been a few lately that were digusting, seems we are far from immune.

Ruiz has certainly used the benefit of not many people seeing the fight to talk up a 'robbery'. Smart move in one respect.

Germany is a lot worse than any other country. Like I said , I have not seen anyone winning a close decision since Maske-Hill in 1996. That is 12 years ago, has anyone here a more recent exmple?

It is not just Germany. Do you remember Lewis/Holyfield I & DLH/Sturm? Those were COMPLETE robberies and I have seen several criminal robberies on ESPN Friday Night Fights throughout the years. It happens everywhere.

So much for your credibitly. "hurt" Valuev won easily. Ruiz got 3 rounds if you're generous. When fights like that which are CLEAR victories are called robberies, it makes you think twice when there is crying about a robbery for a fight you did not see. I cannot believe how people let their hate cloud their vision that much that they can't admit the obvious.
