I was pulling for Byrd and was excited at the end because in the 9th round the momentum was switching in his favour, but lets be realistic, he was dominated and lost every round exept for 5th and 9th which he won because Vitali fought with an injury. Even if he won all the remaining rounds he would still lose a UD.

You're probably right but you never know what was going on in Vitali's head. Maybe he had a Golota attack.

Edit: After watching it again it looks like he took an easy way out after Byrd landed some nice punches.

Aggravating a torn rotator cuff by trying to complete a fight can actually have far more severe consequences for a boxing career than the Lewis "face-rip" injury. Vitali was also leading comfortably in that fight so he wasn't using the injury as an exit strategy.

Anyway, the brothers are content with family vengeance. Everyone who has beaten one of them is brutallized by the other brother, except Lewis who retired. This type of family vengeance seems to suffice for them.

It is my personal opinion that fights such as this, which end by an injury not actually caused by blows like dislocated knees, torn rotator cuffs, torn knee ligaments, should be ruled a no-contest assuming official medical evidence of the injury and its severity is presented. It souldn't be a TKO, but that's just my opinion.

hey different circumstances... vitali had already quit and was labelled as a quitter now. He had something to prove. this was for THE heavyweight championship of the world. he knows how big of a name lewis is. he knows what this fight means. of course hes willing to go to the extreme now that he has something to prove. plus vitalis not a very pretty man anyways so he can afford some scars around his eyes.

yeah he was leading but in the post fight interview Vitali said he thought he was behind on points.
