Rocky Road For Michael Katsidis: Battler From Oz Rejects Not So Golden Offer For Juan Diaz Houston Comeback Bout On HBO!

    Michael Marley
    6/20/2008

The hunt resumes for a comeback bout opponent for Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz in his hometown of Houston.

Boxing----------.com has learned that Australian tough guy Michael “Rocky” Kastidis balked at the size of the purse that was offered to him by Golden Boy Promotions. The promoter is now embarking on a dragnet to find the proper foe to bring the former world lightweight champion back into the TV spotlight against.

Diaz has his three titles removed by upstart Nate Capmbell when they fought this past March in Cancun, Mexico. Diaz’s manager-trainer, Willie Savannah, was in the midst of a lengthy feud with Diaz’s then promoter, Don King, when Campbell scored the upset.

Golden Boy felt that the one-dimensional Katsidis was a "safe" opponent for Diaz who is proably more mentally batted than physically from Campbell's took him to school effort

Katsidis has been waiting to fight Diaz for a while. He allowed him to unify the titles by fighting nate campbell, on the condition that he fought Katsidis next. Both of them lost so they had no obligation to each other.

I think we need to find out exactly what was offered to each fighter before we comment on his decision.

Katsidis needs to fight like he did from R2 - 9 in the JC fight for a whole 12 rounds. He was really nervous in R1 in that fight and it almost cost him the fight... he can't afford it this time!!

Hopefully we see him improved and he takes Diaz out under 12!

a tough fight for Rocky. It shows balls stepping up after your first loss and choosing a hardened opponent. This is what world boxing needs. Good fighters taking each other on. Not ducking to keep their records 'loaded'.

Agreed, thats pretty much the reason he is one of my favourite fighters. Isnt scared of taking on the best and he was pretty gracious in defeat last fight, Hope he beats Diaz if they do end up fighting.
