All good fights you mentioned. I wouldn't hesitate to give Vazques Marques 2 fight of the year. That was a barnburner!

I am a huge Kelly Pavlik fan and when evaluating my thoughts for Fighter of the Year it was hard for me not to be biased.

But I can honestly say, the only one who may have an arguement against Pavlik is cotto.

    Judah and Mosley

    vs.

    Zertuche, Miranda, Taylor.

I think Kelly has the greater resume because he beat three outstanding fighters convincingly in the same year. This kind of work ethic and determination is what boxing needs from its champions these days.

Alot of people think Zertuche was a tomato can. He is a great fighter, he was a member on the Mexican Olympic boxing team and can definately take a punch.

Miranda everyone knows about, probably the most feared man in Boxing when Kelly took the fight with him. Going into the fight, Miranda had only lost once, which was a very contreversial decision against Abraham IBF belt holder, and had a competition level that had a record of something like 127-10. Kelly was a huge underdog in this fight and really won decisively.

Of course then Jermian Taylor, who had faced Hopkins twice, Winky, and Spinks who was a quick boxer. Kelly got knocked down but showed the heart of the champion by getting to his feat and convinvingly knocking out the champion.

In my mind there is no other resume of 2007 that comes close to that of Kelly Pavlik.

Tough year to vote for fighter of the year, three worthy candidates in my eyes: PBF, Cotto, Pavlik. I would have picked:

#1) Pavlik: As of Jan. 07' he was a just a hard hitting prospect. Underdog vs. Miranda & works him over. Underdog vs. Taylor, comes off the deck after that brutal KD in round 2, and gets down to work ending with a brutal KO in round 7. No controversial decisions just standing over his beaten opponents. None of the fighters he KTFO had been KO'd before. That's fighter of the year material.

#2) FPBF: Moves up in weight and handles still dangerous DLH. Great KO over Hatton. Both fights hyped well and Hatton was thought by many to give PBF all he could handle but never be KO'd. Favored to win all his fights.

#3) Cotto: Works over Floyd retread Zab in a tough fight. Handles SSM in another tough fight where many thought it was a draw and some thought SSM won. Favored to win his fights.

    So Pavlik's the man

Kelly Pavlik or Joe Calzaghe should have been named fighter of the year in front of Mayweather in my opinion. I will admit that until Pavlik beat Taylor I did not know much about him other then his record? And Joe's win over Kessler rates far higher then Mayweather's 2007 wins in my opinion. I'm going to go with Pavlik as he seemed to come from knowhere as far as I was concerned and record two strong wins in 2007. Not underestimating Mayweather as he really showed his class in the ring in 2007 to us English fans. Shame he is such a **** out of it.

Hard to figure some peoples logic around here. Kelly faced the greater danger in his 3 fights more so than an over the hill Oscar, Mosley & screwball Judah. And Hatton was just too limited skill wise to compete at the highest level he needed to.

:rofl...anyone who thinks mayweather doesnt win this is out of their mind or ridiculously biased.

Mayweather beat an atg in his first fight in his fifth weight class, and knocked out a top 10 p4p/undefeated/undisputed champion.

Theres no question really, and thats why any boxing source with any credibility has named mayweather fighter of the year.

I had Pavlik as fighter of the year also. He was the underdog in two of his fights. Came back from adversity and KTFO who ever he was fighting.

Hatton and Delahoya> Taylor, Miranda, and Zertuche

I dont see how any impartial person can't see that..Beating 2 mediocre fighters and one champion don't equal fighter of the year..Some of you guys need to take your blinders off..Most of the people who are saying this are either Pavlik fanboys or PBF haters..Objectivity is not a strong trait with these people..

Now if Pavlik beats Taylor, beats Abraham, and jumps to 168 and beats a contender, he would have my vote for FOTY.. And Please no fight with Duddy, too many other big fights to be made.

Aren't you posting this thread to point out how wrong they are:lol::lol::lol:

Or is this a one way street?

Either way, to answer your last question, Hopkins is not as good as he was. However, neither is Taylor when he beat him. He has regressed, and that was mentioned on this forum LONG before he fought Pavlik.

What I said makes perfect sense. Pbf was named FOTY. I disagree with that & say its Pavlik & was awaiting the Floyds fan to tell me I'm nuts.

Fighting an over the hill Oscar, who maybe fights once a year is a joke of a fight & so is the $ that they made. Hand freakin picked opponents to give PBF the least chance of defeat. There are other hungry fighters out there who could give him a good challange, but he avoids them like a plague.

PBF = Businessman of the Year.:deal
