Ken Norton vs. Floyd Patterson

So I was reading the Cassius Clay v Larry Holmes thread and this got me thinking...

Would be a pretty good fight I think.

 

Not for long. Patterson KO4 Norton. Too fast, too skilled, too much power.

 

I dunno, I think Norton makes it to the mid rounds at least.

 

I think it's a tough fight for both, but I think Patterson's faster hands starts to get to Norton in the mid rounds and would eventually stop Norton late. Good match up.

 

Yup, that's pretty much how I see it going.

Nortons awkward style would give Patterson a few problems I think, and Ken wasn't exactly a powderpuff puncher himself.

 

Floyd stops him in the mid rounds I think

Norton doesn't like it to the body, Floyd would be going there with is left hook and would be going back up to the head

also I think Patterson hits hard enough to hurt Norton. Anyway he would still have much faster hands and better combinations. I pick Floyd by mid rounds.

Ken Norton was strong, and his left hook to the body hurt.
His right hand was more of an open slap.

Floyd Patterson surprised him with his speed and power.
That 'Peek-a-Boo' defense was a front for his power.

Both had fraglie psychs.

Norton beat Ali, competive in 2 other fights. Also beat an aged JQuarry,

Patterson lost to Ali (2), and drew/lost to JQuarry.

Norton a lot bigger.

Norton by Split Decision in 15.

 

You failed to point out that Ali and Quarry were very faded compared to their prime selves.

Patterson arguably won the quarry fights. And was competitive early on against Ali the second time..

Patterson beat Chuvalo, Ellis, JohannsonX2, Bonavena, Harris, and Cooper.
Patterson has the deeper resume (I didn't give the young fight to norton

 

I was just going by the common opponents, and who I thought would win if they fought.

Bill McMurray was talking only about his battles with Floyd Patterson and Ken Norton,
in the late 60's, not Norton vs Bobick 7 years later.
Ken was only 9-0-0, and just starting out.
He was mentioning Norton's best punch at the time, a left hook to the body.

 

well the second part i have no problem with but quarry and ali were certainly past their best of course?

and norton later developed his overhand right .. of course Kenny still had a nice left hook throughout his whole career though
