Snap. I saw him at the UFC Expo and just walked past him. I find him totally disinteresting.

He was demonstrating some moves in a make shift ring. There was a bunch of UFC guppys lapping it all up. Not sure what for though. I wouldn't want any fighting tips from him.

When you look at him from what he is, compared to what he could have been there is a big difference. Maybe it was just that tough season and his opponents were kind of weak. But to me, he looked like the sort of guy who would probably spend a lot of time on his back, but also capable of some slick subs.

Didn't pan out that way for him and that sucks. To deny he even had the potential to be good I think is a bit harsh. I don't think he would have ever been top tier, but I think he would have been entertaining given his ability to turn fights around and slap on some nice subs.

You think he was that good at subs Koa? The thing I remember most about Grove was him throwing his legs up getting an arm or a triangle but he was rarely able to finish them.

That pretty much describes what he did to Almeida.

Grove doesn't suck, he just isn't an elite fighter. He doesn't have Reach Knowledge, he rarely gets the kod, and he never makes an opponent him *****; but he is a good opponent.

kendal grove is a douchebag, his problem is that he has menstrual fluid in his veins instead of blood.

I think he showed a ton of potential. That lankiness is just a freaky physical attribute that can be used in multiple situations. From his back he can collapse fighters with the long arms, by grabbing an opponents leg to force him down, or slapping on a sub.

From the mount, it means he can assault from full guard. When you watch John Jones go to town on the ground, you see how his length and lankiness pay dividends with his gnp. Grove would be so long that he could throw punches without ever even being in a situation where a guy could try to grab the back of his head from the mount.

Having that kind of reach and size advantage of Grove's scale is something very rare, and something that is nearly unheard of given his weight division. That he was never able to take advantage of it, be it his lack of drive, or lack of a trainer who would be able to help him take advantage of his own size is sad. He seemed to have good desire to fight..

Size isn't everything, but when you have the sort of reach advantage Grove has, it is an incredible tactical advantage if you know how to use it. I think he was a better than average talent, but he was a superior specimen. He seemed to have the brains to fight smart, maybe it was just a lack of motivation or trainer to help him take advantage of his natural size advantage.
