I think Kessler has a good chance against Hopkins, but I would still favour Hopkins to beat him. Styles make fights and Hopkins has the perfect style for a straight-up, orthodox fighter like Kessler, in my view.
Hopkins may win, but it certainly wont be because Kessler makes mistakes. Kessler probably makes the least mistakes in a classical boxing sense in current boxing. No, it will rather be because Kessler doesn't make mistakes and fights too - too cleanly. Because that could be seen as - too predictably ... and Bernard certainly will look at it like that and try to exploit that. Not mistakes, because there are few, but predictability that comes from doing everything texbook style. It would be an interesting fight. I cannot say great fight, because Bernard is rarely is 'great' fight. But it would be interesting.
I don't want to hear anymore about Americans overrating their fighters. Kessler beat a couple of scrubs and now I'm hearing that he'll beat Calzaghe in a rematch, that he'll knock out Dawson and that he'll easily beat Hopkins. This guy is completely overrated by Euro posters on this forum.
Hopkins better hurry up and bath himselfin the glory; I see him dropping like a stone in 2009. Although he did fight great against the "Zombie".
There is a huge difference. Not to mention that many Americans rate Kessler very highly (what the difference between the americans that do and the americans that dont is will become clear in this post). Think about Lacy. Think about Pavlik. Then think about Calzaghe. Think about Kessler. You may say all four were talked about. Lacy and Pavlik were talked about more and at far earleir stages in their carreers. Yes, what was reality? That Calzaghe and Kessler so far have shown to be the goods while at least Lacy is doubtful and Pavlik lost every single round in his last fight. Kessler is rated because people have eyes and can see what happens when Kessler fights. He did not only beat Andrade, he won every round. He did not only beat Beyer, Haussler, Siaca etc. he won EVERY round. Lacy and Pavlik both have lost plenty of rounds and looked very vulnerable even in fights they somehow ended up winning. Of course in order to know this you have to actually SEE the fights. For someone who surfs around Boxrec, the high rating Kessler gets may seem unwarranted.
I've seen plenty of Kessler fights. He's good, but not that good. He's not beating Dawson, Calzaghe, or Hopkins. The best guy that Kessler beat was Anthony Mundine. They same Mundine who's now fighting at MW. Beyer was washed up, and Andrade is a tough fighter but doesn't have a whole lot in terms of skill.
It would be a helluva fight. Kessler is not Pavlik: He's bigger, faster, better defensively, more accurate, and most importantly he fought impressivly against crazy man Calzaghe, and he's very pissed that he lost. I'd still favor Hopkins slightly because he's so damn adaptable but the fact that Kessler had a lot of success early against Calz. would be a great benifit in fighting Hops.
Kessler will ko Hopkins, for some reason Pavlik didn't trow jabs in his last fight. He was just there following the old clincher.
It will be very difficult for Kessler to fight Hopkins. I think that Bernard will utilize the same tactic as he did against Calzaghe, and it is difficult to score against a fighter, whose primary aim is to disrupt your rhytm. Calzaghe did this with great success against Kessler, and Hopkins will try the same. Kessler still might win on workrate, but who knows - Bernard is very smart. If Hopkins did the stupid thing to try to box with Kessler he would lose, but he won't do this.
Kessler will never beat Bernard the volume is not there you need to be aggresive with a great stamina I think Hopkins found his perfect weigh 170 lbs forget about a belt who needs it? definetly he is in the driver seat waiting for Roy Jones.
