It comes down to this, nobody knows or cares about Kessler here. Kessler wants the big fights, but he needs to understand that boxing is a business. I remember reading the open letter he sent out complaining that none of the big name americans want to fight him, well, why should they? A fight with him here in US wouldnt be that major to the casual american fan and wouldnt bring in the money needed to justify the risk. He thinks that he deserves the big fights just because he has built his record up to 40 wins beating up nonames in his backyard, doesnt work like that. Like I said before, he needs to build his name up, take a big fight, let the people here know how talented and exciting you are. Look at a guy like Paul Williams. He doesnt have the name right now to make the big fights. He is a big risk for anyone. He doesnt have the name to bring in the big money neither, thats why he's so avoided, just ask margarito. What does he do? He takes big risk by fighting a very dangerous opponent like Winky and going up in weight to do it. He and his handlers are confident in his ability, thus he takes the risk. Why didnt MK, a guy nicknamed the Viking Warrior, have the confidence to step up in weight and take on Dawson at 75? He beats Dawson, he becomes a P4P'er and all of his problems are solved. Why should the likes of Taylor rush to fight a noname? Fact is, he doesnt have to. None of the guys that he called out have to. They are already established here. With that being said, I agree with you, JT/MK will happen eventually. I just think it can be a mega-fight if MK makes his way over here and smashes a few american contenders.
Who, give me some names that are better than Calzaghe,Andrade and Mundine, that are going to electrify the American public. If you say Dawson, I'm gonna quit debating, the man cant draw flies yet. Again who? Bute,Froch or Abraham would happen in Europe, it would be daft staging it elsewhere. If this debate is going to be soley about Kessler leaving 168 just to fight a guy less known than he is at the weight above, then we are never going to agree.
You just dont know **** do you! And you just dont like Kessler and thats a fact! Dawson my ass - He wouldent go down in weight! - Last time he was fighting in 168 lb was 3 years ago and against Jason Naugler. My god!
Nah, he doesnt have to leave 68, just fight a fringe contender. The Miranda fight would have been great for him. If he could get a guy like say, Lacy to fight him on HBO, on maybe the Dawson/Tarver undercard, the Winky/Williams undercard, or even on BAD that would do wonders for him. Even better, if he could get a guy like Allen Green to fight him, that would be great. That would be a great fight, and im sure HBO would put money up for that, and im pretty sure Green would be up for it. Like I said, it would be a risk coming over here fighting a decent opponent like Green, but one he should take for sure.
If Kessler signed to fight Lacy, the reaction on here would be hilarious, it might be worth it just for that. It's a sad state of affairs if Green is the key to getting Taylor in the ring but whatever. I would prefer Bika, if MK has to have someone first, but putting on a great display in the states doesnt necesarrily get you the fight you want, just ask Abraham. Hopefully we get the fights we want this year.
I agree with you about the fight with Lacy, but thats because we arent casual fans here on esb, we are the hardcore. I wouldnt like it, but I would understand why he was doing it. Its like what Joe did with manfredo. Say MK Knocks lacy out in 6 rounds or less, that would make JT's dec win look weak in comparison. HBO would like that. Its just like JT always says, he's going to take the fight that brings in the most money. Just like when he told merchant that after the spinks fight when talking about Pavlik, who on the undercard created a buzz for himself by ko'ing miranda earlier in the night.
I was only messing about, to be fair it's not a bad idea, you're quite right, it would probably work too. :good The threads on here would be bat-**** crazy though.
