Around Strawweight and Light-Fly you've currently got guys like Roman Gonzalez, Joyi, Segura, Canchila, Viloria (who Calderon has expressed a desire in fighting) as well as Ulises Solis and other fighters I can't even be bothered to search the correct spelling of. And amongst those two weight classes Calderon is the concencous 'best' and a lock for the top 10 P4P in most peoples eyes.
Bute, Hopkins and Dawson for a start should be in there with Kessler, and should have already been. Beating Carl Froch is hardly the definition of greatness. Still... yes roll on the super six.
Although I'm a big Gonzalez fan, you're selling Calderon a bit short there, IMO. Would be an awersome fight in the future, though:good.
Totally agree, mate, but mainland Europeans (and some Brits and Irish) love those mandatories at times! That said, I don't see Kessler ever moving to 175. I agree that defeating Froch wouldn't really be a hugely defining fight in the grand scheme of things for Kessler, but there are still plenty of intriguing fights in the Super 6, IMO:good.
You're talking to someone who was one of the original Gonzalez hypers. First of all, Calderon is tough as Hell. The 11th round (if I remember correctly) against Cazares proves this. Cazares was a notorious weight cutter, and truly massive when he fought Calderon both times, yet Calderon managed to come through the storm and see it out. 2ndly, Gonzalez doesn't seem to be a 'starcher' by any means. He's an accumulative hitter and bangs to the body more than he does to the head (i.e he gets more leverage to those shots) And Calderon is defensively sound. He's also young. Would he get frustrated (and therefore sloppy) at Calderon's footspeed, in and out movement and annoying four-punch combos (I say annoying because they can hardly be described as hurtful) You're just chucking in names to make it look like you have knowledge yet you've never been able to answer any questions that are posed back at you with any information. I rank Gonzalez more than anyone, and see him as possibly 'the man' to dethrone Calderon. He will walk Calderon down constantly, has a good jab himself, and can cut off the ring well with his fast feet and quick lunges to bring him in on the inside. He has a serious dig in his left hook to the body and has already beaten a seriously good operator in Niida, and in his hometown no less. But you're discarding of Calderon's chances like that is unfair. Gonzalez has never been in with someone as good as Calderon. Calderon has shown an (excuse the pun) iron will himself and despite his reputation as a feather fist, has a good chin to go with it. If hurt he can brave it out, 'cause he sure as Hell isn't bombing away an aggressor.
Which ones and why? Come on, why do their styles beat Calderon? You haven't got a clue pal, I'm looking forward to your response. What was it last time? 'Well I'm not having a debate with you if you can't be civil', mainly because you didn't know how to respond/hadn't looked at Boxrec/was having a quick look at youtube to see if you could pick up some tidbits.
So you can respond with that. Something else to divert the attention away from you actually making a decent response:deal
At this stage I'd actually fancy Segura's chances against Calderon more than Gonzalez'. Segura's wild as ****, but he has very good power for the division, stamina to burn, and as usual with Calderon opponents he'd have a pretty hefty weight advantage. Plus, he's a good bit more mobile than the plodding Cazarez. Gonzalez "might" be something special for the future though.
I actually agree with you. It's Seguras wildness which makes him (at times) unpredictable and that may throw Calderons timing off and keep him subdued enough to just throwing his jab out and staying out of range, therefore losing rounds. On the other hand, the stoppage against Canchila was bizarre and unfair, Canichila kept coming back and Calderon has a good chin himself, improved defence, and can outbox Segura just as Canchila did in their first meeting. Segura has a chance, but I'd still lean toward Calderon. To be fair, a fight I'd really like to see is Gonzalez vs Segura. Roman is apparently having troubles making weight. Could be this generations Carbajal-Chiquita :yep:good
Here is his entrance music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=884kxFjXb9E The same band is working on a new entrance song for Kessler for the Super Six!
