Some weeks after the fight - Kessler had a hand surgery......?




Kessler lost the fight - period!!.

I saw a 115-113. After the fight, i, and so many others, blamed the corner. But we were wrong. Pre fight videos shows that Kessler and his crow was very a where of Calzaghe fight style. Kessler simply didnt produce. If he did what the the corner told him "be hard on the guy, keep on the pressure"..............?

 

At best, for Kessler, it was 116-112, giving him the 1, 2, 4 and 12th. At worst, you could argue despite landing the uppercut in the 4th, he was still starting to be found out and hit more by Calzaghe, so I can see where people give him that round.

The hand excuse washes for nothing in my view, Calzaghe was constantly having surgery after fights and one of the reasons he didn't get Pavlik is cause he needed time to let his hand heal after Kessler.

Kessler could have been in the best form of his life and lost that fight, he got beaten from the outside, out jabbed and completely shut down.

The key to beating Kessler is that - remove the jab by being more dominant with yours and it makes him reset his entire game, if he can't use the jab to keep the distance and allow his natural timing to come into play, he's not an effective fighter, due to a lack of body punching options, no left hook and an inability to slip punches using head movement.

The good news for Kessler is, Calzaghe is about the only guy who could nullify his jab, along with maybe RJJ and maybe Hopkins.

I mean, besides MK, who as far as I'm concerned can beat anyone in his weight division (and I honestly think many of the ATG's).

He wouldn't have won regardless, it's not like Calzaghe was wide open there, he has great defense too and would have STILL outlanded him. No one can deny that Kessler nailed him with a very solid uppercut people expected the fight would be OVER if he landed that and he did, guess what?, Calzaghe punched right back.

 

Watch the 5,6 and 8 with no sound on...........?

Calzaghe did not have major invasive surgery after each fight.

Let's not make this into something political. Kessler's hand was ****ed up - that is a fact. He had surgery right after the fight - and should have had this before the fight. He was fighting on a solid dose of pain killers and he says that the hand did not hurt during the fight. The main problem was the lack of sparring for the fight. However, he was still very competitive.

In private, Team Kessler will tell you that they believe Kessler would have won because he was in relatively bad shape for the fight because everything was up in the air and Kessler couldn't spar with the people they had brought in, his manager and promoter was in hospital with rumors that he was dying. They will tell you that Kessler was winning the fight until he had to pull the breaks on the speed the fight was being fought at - around round 6-7. His preparation (lack thereof) meant that he couldn't hang with Joe in terms of stamina, although Kessler has always been the one finishing the strongest in anyone of his fights - he could not do this being relatively unprepared. Kessler has never doubted that he wanted a rematch because he thinks he would beat Joe in a rematch.

Would he? Who knows, and we will never find out.

 

Both guys are/were really too big for the weight.

I disagree. I think Hopkins genuinely felt he had controlled/dictated Calzaghe, and was very confident he had won, with the KD and the clean landing combination at the end of round 7 in mind (the only really clean and effective combination of the entire dreadful fight). By contrast, I think Calzaghe looked between rounds as if he felt nullified and impotent, and he certainly looked utterly despondent at the final bell.
