it was never in Kesslers nature to ask for a fight at home, its not what he does. Hes more of a throwback tough guy Froch style than the modern spin doctor type fighter (actually Zaghes himself is a good example of the spin type). So asking this question is pretty inconsequential really - Kessler wouldnt bother. But I think he would have managed a draw at least of course, thats very possible, and may well have edged a controverial win. He has more heart and strength than Zaghes but lacks Zaghes level of speed, athleticism and commitment to keeping his zero losses, so he is generally going to come 2nd in this race one on one, and especially with a crowd and ref against him. Zaghes would never agree to fight Kess in Denmark anyway, because he wouldnt want to lose.
In your opinion, but those fights have never been fought in the losers home country. Fighters perform better at home, and worse away. And it can be the difference between winning and losing. It has been before.
The fight was close points wise but it was a clear win for calzaghe. It was easy to score, there were very few tight rounds. They both had periods and I had it even going in to the 9th. Also it was a very respectful crowd, no real booing for Kessler (very difficult to dislike him) and Kessler also had really good support on the night (the drums helped).
If Kessler had not had broken hand and therefore had been able to spar before the fight, I'd say he'd have won. We are talking about a round or two here. Had it been in Denmark, I'm certain he'd had the win. If anything, the s6 showet us that homefield means everything. Surely a wild, partizan crowd would have urged Kessler to give that extra 5%.
I assume you're referring to Ward fighting at home? From what I saw, Ward could have beaten all the other contenders in the s6 at their homes in front of their families. He was on another level.
You said "If anything, the s6 showet us that homefield means everything" People usually say things klike this because Ward fought in Oakland for most of his fights. I was simply making the point that being at home or away doesnt make that much of adifference to a fighters ability. Dodgy scoring might make adifference, but thats about it. Ward was so dominant in his fights that it wouldnt have mattered where he fought.
I beg to differ, but Ward is not an issue in this thread and Kessler's hand wasn't broken for Ward and 1 or 2 rounds wouldn't make a difference in that fight.
