A tough fight can really hurt your stock. Do you see a lot of people commending Dawson for winning a tough fight against Johnson? And Johnson seems like he's a tough stylistic matchup for anyone. Kessler would be an easier fight for Johnson than Dawson was. Kessler doesn't have the hand speed of Dawson, the combination punching or the body work. Kessler is an easier puzzle to solve, and Johnson would make it a long night

If he's going to fight at 175, Calzaghe and Hopkins are the only fights that make sense at this point.

Kessler allready beat Bika in sparring some time ago! Bika even said Kess was better than Calz.. but that was before the Calz vs Kess fight! but ofcourse nobody can compare sparring to a real fight:bbb

There is a difference between a tough night and a life and death night, like Dawson had. The only reason Glen Johnson ever got into that fight was because Dawson lost his way and stopped doing the things he did early. He was clearly dominating the fight. Then he got buzzed. Things went downhill. If Kessler has a tough night, manages to not get hurt but wins a more convincing decision than Dawson, that raises his stock IMO.

Johnson's own stock is high right now, after that fight. I scored it for Dawson, but a lot of people obviously didn't.

And Glen Johnson ain't this world beater. Sven Ottke made him look slow and poor, lets get some perspective. I think Kessler is smart enough to stick to his jab and not get drawn in like Dawson, and I prefer Kessler's defence which would hopefully stop him getting hurt.

Either way, all this analysis of the fight is not what I was getting at. Johnson is a fight that is preferable in terms of profile and credit than any fights outside of Taylor, Bute, Froch or Calzaghe which is impossible.

Well, we'll just have to dissagree here. In my opinion, Palle would be making a poor decision if he had Kessler go up in weight to fight Johnson.

What would be a better decision, if he can't get the fights I mentioned as my top 3 choices? And Calzaghe is impossible, so forget that.

Larsen might be "sensible" and a "good decision" business wise, but its not what we want to see for the good of Kessler's career, is it? That's what I'm getting at, what we want from a fans point of view, not what is completely safe.

Isn't Kessler a SMW? Why would the fans want to see him go up to 175 to fight in a non title fight? The only non title fight he should consider at 175 is Hopkins. If Kessler is so concerned about what the fans want, then he should fight Dawson at 175. However, we know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

He hasn't backed down from anyone, and at least he's willing to say names. He's been dissing Kessler and Kessler wont even say his name

If titles are the be all and end all why would it be okay to fight Hopkins and not Johnson? I find the decision to go and fight Hopkins in a non-title fight far more reckless than Glen Johnson. Mikkel would surely have a far more feasible chance of pulling out the W against the Jamaican.

Yes Kessler is a SMW, which is why I want to see him fight the other beltholders or Taylor. They would be my first list of targets. If nothing happens there, what does he do? I'd much rather he went and fought Glen Johnson than a random super middleweight. He's been there, done that, got no credit. So he moves up, he's got a few options. He doesn't want to fight a bum, but I think Hopkins and Dawson are steps too far in his first fight there.

Because Hopkins is a HOFer and one of the few fighters that get people excited about a fight on just his name.

Yeah, but I doubt many would be interested in seeing that fight.

Not many fighters seem to get credit for beating Johnson either. If he wants to go to 175 and fight a meaningful fight where he would get credit for winning, he needs to look no further than Hopkins or Dawson.

You were talking about how stupid a decision is. How realistic is it for Kessler to beat Hopkins considering styles? Sure, it gets people excited, but its a horrible fight for him IMO. I was trying to get a fight that would get him credit, but is very winnable too.

I think people would be interested, why not? Boxing fans would be interested. A lot of people were impressed with how he fought against Dawson, some scoring it for him. I'm sure he would get credit from most people. I think its a nice balance of being a winnable fight and also meaningful on his resume.

I wouldn't mind if he fought Dawson too, rather than Hopkins. At least it wouldn't look as ugly :-(

Why would he refuse to fight a zombie?
