Not trying to kick a guy when he is down, but Mitchell just looks like a nearly man to me, the kinda guy who will clean up at domestic and even euro level, but who will continuously be found out at world level. It just seems to me that he will always have problems out-boxing the boxers and out-punching the punchers at the top level. He seems quite well-rounded, but just doesn't do any one thing "really" well. Maybe Katsidis was just a bad style for him (he's a bad style for a lot of people) or maybe he just got caught with a big punch, but I feel Mitchell just won't ever be able to live at world level for long. Sure, he might pick up a fringe title somewhere along the line, they're always up for grabs, but I just feel he'll ever be able to establish himself near the top of a division. Thoughts? Am I talking shite? Kneejerk reaction possibly? Just the feeling I'm getting at the moment. What are your views?
Nah I think you're right, The bolded part sums it up well. You never know, he's still young enough to improve but what steps will he take to do that?
I think your second paragraph is probably fair. He was a brawler, now he's leaning towards the boxing having moved up in weight, truth is he hasn't quite got a convincing looking about him in either at world level despite being very competent. The disapointing thing tonight was he didn't let a punch go in anger, could question him mentally. He jabbed well but didn't follow it up with anything, looked frozen stiff. He'll have regrets about not giving it a real go before Kat caught up with him. I'd like to see him against Murray, that seems logical to me now. Mitchell was a step ahead of Murray, but now he has to take a step back to go forward. I think Mitchell could beat Murray still.
In the "good old days" he'd be known as a decent European Champ and be respected for it. These days.......the goalposts have moved, I can't see him getting further than he has now, fringe word class.
I thought he looked absolutely petrified before the fight tonight which might have played a a part. Like TFFP says he looked frozen. But its all part of the game, if you cant handle the nerves on a big night then you aint going far.
Really? I think Soto is solid at world class and brings as much flak as Katsidis does. Soto and Katsidis' style looks quite comparable to me, with Soto just being slightly more angular and not as much of a compact puncher as Kats, but he can take a better punch than the Aussie. I think Soto would be flies-on-**** in a fight with Mitchell, taking Kevin out late or to a wide decision. Just my opinion.
