Soto is more of a technical boxer. People pidgeon hole him as a brawler/pressure fighter based on the Guzman fight but that was out of neccessity. He prefers to fight at a measured pace, he was even too measured in his last fight.

Probably too good in every department for Kevin, wouldn't be a good fight immediately.

Murray would be ideal. Okay, so we can say he was out of his depth against world class pressure and power. What about British/European level pressure?

Did anyone here really think Mitchell ever had the talent to be world class. I was pleased to see he was a step above Cook and Arthur but it was plain to see that Marquez he was not. We got excited about this match up because after the Prescott fight we thought their styles meshed well. Their styles did mesh well.

Mitchell boxed smart, maybe won the first 2 rounds, in the 3 he could no longer avoid Hurricane Katsidis and made wrong moves. Wrong moves that are costly in such a sport. This isn't football, you let in a goal and come back to level. In boxing, it can be all over.

Mitchell's shoulder roll is sub par. It was always plain to see. He had domestic guys catching him. When he fought Prescott I was hopeful that his chin was quality. It turns out it's not cut from the same rock that Oliver McCalls is. That means he needs to go back to the drawing board, work on blocking, work on fighting smart when hurt, work on keeping his chin down and tucked etc

As soon as he started jogging towards the ring I said to my Mrs that it was all over before it began...he looked way too keyed up

At 130 I'd agree but having seeing Soto at 135 he doesn't seem the same. He tries to box more and isn't as physically imposing at the weight. I think Murray could take him and we'd find out a fair bit about Mitchell against Soto.

He also boxes tonight coincidently, opponent isn't great though.

He may end up falling between 2 stools.

I think he may pick up a world title at some stage (possibly a vacated one) but probably wont hold on to it for long.

It will be interesting to see where he goes next, hope he doesn't leave it too long before getting back in.

    Fair play.

I didn't take into account the weight jump.

Fighting the way he did when he got hurt suggested he was reacting to the occassion rather than the fight. The Mitchell who fought Prescott wasn't stupid enough to engage like that.

Anyone else think Mitchell looked just a little soft at the weight? Not too much but enough to suggest he could drop the 5lbs back down to 130.

    doubt he could do it.

    mid 20's now.

gonna have to be lightweight you'd think.

soto is a no no comeback fight on tonight's evidence.

What annoys me is I really felt Mitchell could have beaten some good oppo and got a belt at 130. I couldn't believe it when he announced that he would step up as the division was shithot at the time; JMM was in the process of destroying the lineal and upstarts of the division, Valero was getting hype, Guzman moved up, et al. Warren could market a move back down, but I don't think Kev could make it now.

135 was always a really bizarre decision, even though Mitchell was struggling to make weight. Apart from Murray, I don't know where Frank takes him from here. I'm gutted for Kev as I really like him, but I could never see him mixing it with the best in a division as stacked as 135 is given he conceded advantages by moving up in the first place.

It's concerning because it's not as if he fought a totally stupid fight. I thought his intentions were well thought out, but he just lacked the class to execute.

In the second round he was against the ropes and trying to counter Katsidis on the inside, which was a smart thing to do instead of just covering up and letting Kats do whatver, but he just lacked the chin, power, and overall composure to sustain it and deal with what Kats was bringing and then bring his own armoury into the equation to score points himself.

Rude awakening for him and just makes your realise how good guys like Mayweather etc are.
