Froch was joking. He was bound to say Calzaghe. Khan seemed a bit more serious.

Froch says "I've got to say that, tongue in cheek" and he laughs.

He himself says it was tongue in cheek!!

And ask most people on here and they would say they expected Hatton to say Witter and Froch to say Calzaghe.

Maybe Khan was saying it to wind Kotelnik up aswell, maybe he knew the fight might be on or is being worked on. Dont you hear fighters say beforea fight 'ohh iam gona beat him easy, no problem, its just a bit of banter, but people are blowing this up too much.

The worst you can accuse Khan here of being, is not being media savvy.

Do we really want people to give planned, thought out, predictable, calculated responses all the time and never actually say anything ala Steve Mclaren etc...

Kotelnik is not the best champion out there, everyone knows that, but he's not a total chump. It's a decent fight!

I love how ppl use every angle they can find to attack Khan

It was pretty obvious it was a hint but just imagine if Buncey didn't clear things up !

I reckon what actually happened was that Khan had to quickly think of a world champion and blatantly couldn't name someone obvious like Pacman, and didn't really know who the world champions were in most divisions, so he said the name he had obviously been taught.

He even looks like he's hesitating when he's saying Kotelnik is the world champion.

    He absolutely meant it.

I'm sure when he thinks harder he'd be able to come up with a worse champion than Kotelnik, but obviously plenty of discussions have been had regarding his best route to a title and as a result I'm sure that it had been cemented in his mind by Warren or whoever that Kotelnik would be his easiest opponent in that regard. That's why the fight has been made, and that's why Kotelnik was the first name to pop into Khan's head when the question was asked.
