Look, let's not become as intellectually erratic as the anti-Khan posters. As for the fight last night, Khan deserves considerable credit for taking and surviving--please dispense with this Cortez saved Khan nonsense-- the punches of a hardhitting opponent. Is he iron jawed? No. Is Khan glass jawed? No. However, we should also see Khan for what is he: an excellent fighter for his era and maybe someday a contemporary pound-for-pound king. Floyd, on the other hand, is an all-time great for any era. So long as Floyd's skills do not deteriorate dramatically, he will be always be a good measure ahead of Khan. Take defensive skills, for example. Khan will never be as shifty and elusive as Floyd. Period.
This is the most absurd question to come out of last night. How in the hell does squeaking out a decision against Marcos Maidana point to Khan being ready for Floyd? Floyd would make a **** out of Khan, make no mistake about it. The crude slugger that is Marcos Maidana was getting his shots in, for ****'s sake. Khan's defense is wretched and Floyd would pick it apart all night long.
Mayweather would knock out Khan. Maybe when Mayweather shows signs of being over the hill I might favour Khan but if they fight in 2011, I'm picking Mayweather to beat him in style a la Hatton.
Hell no. Mayweather would've composed a symphony on Khan's shaky mandible last night. Khan's defense is lacking, and Floyd's accuracy is amazing. Khan needs to clean out his division, move up and test himself against at least an A-/B+ fighter at 147, and he might be ready then. He has the speed to compete, and he boxes well from the outside. But, he does not have enough ring smarts, defense, or a high enough IQ to bother Floyd, at this point.
His height, speed, decent power, chin, and tutelage under Roach would make him a livedog vs anyone 140-147. I can clearly see him giving Floyd trouble the first 5-6 rounds and then Floyd would overwhelm him on the inside for a UD win. But this is boxing and you never know. Maidana still is the most dangerous 140lber and Khan passed the test. I think Floyd wins, but it won't be as one sided as most think. Khan is not pushing close to 40yrs old, undersized, or both. Khan would have his moments and I think it would be a great fight.
Like I said a few days ago. I said Khan could win this fight but doesn't make him a star. Maidana has heart and pack a punch but is a veru, very limited boxer. Maidana is not more that, may be, a class B boxer. And Khan was close to losing. Mayweather????? I think Marquez can beat Khan. Khan os not worth a Floyd fight. As much as I hate Floyd, he is way too much for Khan. Even past his best.
Hell no, this is a ridiculous assumption. Khan is still learning the trade, even at this stage of his career, last night will show you that. Khan needs to avoid with Mayweather at all costs, as Mayweather would probably happily fight Khan and ruin him.
He's incredibly fast, threw nice combination, but not ready for Mayweather yet. Maybe in a year or two when Mayweather's skills are going down.
