he fights at range and his power is good for that type of fighter, I think his bodyshots carry the most power and was good to see him using them more in the Collazo fight. Look at Collazo's face and tell me he has no power he was bruised and marked and put down 3 times by Khan, Bradley would not have been able to do that. Above average power IMO
Everything about Khan's underrated on the forum. Take a look at threads pitting him against the likes of Brandon Rios and Keith Thurman- they are massively weighted in favor if the opposition, not taking into account the limitations that the opponents have and decing Khan's glass chin and chin alone is the deciding factor in the outcome. :deal
I agree. I think even his "lack of IQ" is vastly overstated on this board. Don't get me wrong, I think when pressured and in a dogfight....sometimes his decision making can be questionable. But hell anyone that plays sports knows that decision making can change when circumstances are become more difficult. I think Khan was very poised and intelligent in the last fight. He's definitely maturing as a fighter.
It has always been underrated. The reason why he stuns, drops and even KOs opponents is his speed. It's hard to take a punch you don't see coming properly.
Yes . People do seem to forget that . Khan is a solid puncher . Judging from his first fight @ 147 , he brought his power up with him and is somewhat stronger now . Berto hit Collazo with everything he had in a war and never came close to flooring him .
Khan has more speed though, his first KD was also a a great shot, the sort Bhop dropped calzaghe with, Kessler hit JC with harder shots but didnt drop him, doesnt mean BHop hits harder than Kessler, Same way Berto and Mosley hit harder than Khan, although Khan is faster by a wide margin, although he himself isnt as fast (in my opinion) as he was vs Maidana/Judah - considering he is about 28, not a surprise
No boxer should be able to walk forward hands down into another boxer taking clean shots for 12 rounds Khan has no power
Khan is 27, I see your point, but i dont think Khan has lost any speed, he just more wiser with it, there were moments in that fight where he unleashed bits of lightening handspeed.
By the time he fights next he'll be 28... either way for a fast fighter, he is in the latter part of his career, hence he's gone with Virgil to learn new tricks, because his speed will slowly start to go, the speed he had vs Maidana/Judah/Paulie was insane at the time Paulie/judah were a fast fighter but they looked slow. Fighters who rely on speed only like khan, prime years are normally between 23-26, now he is adding more technique and dirty boxing. Thats why he looked shot vs Diaz, Molina because his speed was slowing and didnt have the improved technique, still is open for the left hook though.
I'm a big fan of boxing, but I know much more about other sports. I know in track and field they say your prime years are age 27-29. You look at how old athletes were when they broke world records. Usain Bolt is a bit of an outlier because he has shattered records in the 100 meters. However, Michael Johnson was in his late 20s when he broke the 200meter record and early 30s when he broke the 400meter record. Mike Powell was 28 or 29 when he broke the long jump record. And from a boxinging perspective, Most would agree Pacquiao's prime was 2009....so that would put him at around 29. So Khan should be entering his prime right now. Perhaps having fought so much when he was just 17-18 years could play a factor in him fading as he gets older, plus the wars. But Pacquiao was no stranger to tough fights either. I think he looked sub par against Diaz because he was struggling with the weight. In addition, he got caught early and though he recovered ok...he wasn't quite 100% for the rest of that fight. I thought he looked very fast against Molina. The only issue I saw was a decrease in power. But I think the Collazo fight was a good comeback. He added strength...kept the speed....and added some savvy as well.
Speed is not power; otherwise Floyd and Broner would be a couple of the hardest hitters out there. There have been plenty of feather fisted lighting fast fighters. On the flip side there are heavy hitting motherf#ckers that look like they're throwing in slow motion, i.e. old George Forman.
It's average. Most of the time Khan goes for speed and volume with his flurries but when he actually digs in like he does with body punches, he has medium power. So yeah a bit underrated.
if it was that good he would be able to keep opponents off him with.out literally runni g around the ring. for the most part people have no problem standing with khan and trading or walking thru his punches.
